Mother & Son Lawn Care LLC is hiring an experienced, highly skilled Hardscape & Retaining Wall Specialist to join our growing Worcester-based team. This person must have advanced knowledge of hardscape construction and retaining wall engineering and must hold an active Massachusetts Hoisting License for skid steers and excavators.
πΌ Position Summary
You will design, build, and lead installations for:
Segmental retaining walls (structural & decorative)
Paver patios, walkways, driveways, fire pits
Natural stone steps, landings, and walls
Outdoor living spaces & drainage solutions
Excavation and grading projects using skid steers & excavators
This position requires the ability to lead jobs from start to finish, ensure projects meet ICPI/NCMA standards and Massachusetts building codes, and handle permitting when required.
π§ Key Responsibilities
Design and install patios, walkways, retaining walls, steps, and outdoor living features.
Build code-compliant retaining walls, including base prep, geogrid, reinforcement, and drainage.
Pull permits when necessary, or prepare required documentation for the owner to submit.
Operate skid steers, mini-excavators, compactors, and saws with full competence.
Read and interpret blueprints, grading plans, elevation charts, and spec sheets.
Accurately set elevations using laser or transit.
Calculate materials, plan workflow, and anticipate site challenges.
Lead or assist crew members while maintaining a professional jobsite.
Ensure safety protocols and OSHA practices are always followed.
π Required Experience & Qualifications
Active MA Hoisting License (2A/2B or appropriate class) β REQUIRED.
3β5+ years professional hardscape construction experience.
Expert-level knowledge of retaining wall engineering & drainage systems.
Ability to design projects and build from start to finish.
Strong experience with excavation, grading, and machine operation.
Ability to pull permits when required by local towns.
Valid driverβs license.
Ability to lift 50β80 lbs and work outdoors daily.
ICPI / NCMA certifications
Experience tying drainage systems into existing infrastructure
Experience with natural stone
DOT Medical Card
Ability to lead a crew independently
