    Working under the head of Enterprise Architecture, the Data Architect is a individual contributor who provides data architecture, governance, data strategy, and planning to ensure consistent alignment of IT systems and reporting with business strategy.

    • Important - extreme and superior data modeling skills and help us build a model for claims, policies/agreements, party, etc. This position will eventually be a broad data architect.

    • Will work closely with application development leaders to define and produce data structures, service contracts, persistence engine decisions, canonical and data models, reporting designs, and architectures to meet business needs and to document and optimize the data entities and flows supporting the business.

    • Should be a passionate technologist who uses this inquisitive nature to anticipate and test IT industry technologies and future directions.

    • Works closely with solutions architects and development leaders in the establishment and accomplishment of technology solutions and IT Strategic Objectives.

    Responsibilities:

    • Regularly meets with business and technology leaders to understand and capture all business data and reporting needs. Provides oversight of IT projects
    • Designs, develops, implements, and maintains data strategies & architectures that will enable the company to meet the changing industry and competitive demands
    • Develops, implements, and maintains data standards and best practices to drive business insights, capabilities, efficiency, quality, and agility
    • Identifies opportunities for cost, performance, and technology improvement in current overall data architecture and that of individual systems
    • Collects and maintains current and future state data models, flows, and inventories
    • Develops comprehensive data and reporting technology recommendations and presents to senior management
    • Performs research and information gathering to aide in product life cycle planning, utilizing knowledge of IT industry future directions and industry data standards. Monitors the industry data landscape to track the development of available technologies, and identifies opportunities for adapting the team's data architecture
    • Defines, maintains, and governs the creation of canonical models, data models, services, and reporting/analytics solutions
    • Builds and maintains data inventory and identifies what data elements are governed by regulation or policies (such as PII, HIPAA, etc.) and where they are stored
    • Reviews project team database and service designs to ensure consistency and alignment with defined strategies, target architecture, and canonical models, and adherence to industry standards
    • Identifies and governs reference data solution
    • Participates in architecture governance programs including membership in and presentation to EA committee, maintaining reference architectures, action item follow up, application/service/product inventories, documenting roadmaps/strategies, etc.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of related experience in data architecture, data modeling, data science, data developer, and/or data analyst roles.
    • Expert level data development skills using SQL and NoSQL technologies and Agile Practices
    • Ability to travel within the U.S. ~25% of the time
    • Solid understanding of Private Cloud, IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS, as well as Cloud Models (Azure and/or AWS).
    • Solid understanding of data, analytics, and BI patterns and models – data quality, data governance, data modeling, data persistence and caching technology fit for purpose, warehousing, analytics platforms and strategies, BI reporting, etc.
    • Demonstrated expertise in the implementation and maintenance of large-scale systems and defining new data architectural models; able to code review and mentor developers in data and reporting activities
    • Strong ability to tune queries, optimize models, and optimize data infrastructure
    • Strong problem solving, analytical, and decision making skills and experience
    • A Plus - Experience in Insurance and/or Insurtech
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation & consultative skills for effective relationships and planning long term projects with senior management
    • Experience with Cloud Native Architectures, REST and APIs, Messaging AMQP/Kafka, modeling tools, reporting & analytics tools, caching, Big Data, MDM, XML, JSON, MFT, R, replication technology, RDBMSes (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, Postgres)
    • Experience defining data persistence-related infrastructure architectures as well as designing data migration, replication, and virtualization solutions
    • Experience with agile, digital transformation & DevOps
    • Ability to balance between most ideal and most pragmatic solutions that meet the business needs.
    • Must be a team player able to work effectively at all levels of an organization with the ability to influence others to move toward consensus
    • Must be highly reliable and commitment oriented
