We are seeking an experienced Smart Home Systems Designer to join our growing team in North Carolina. This is a client-facing, sales-focused role responsible for designing integrated smart home solutions, including lighting layouts and scene planning with our design engineer and sales team. You will work directly with clients, help to create proposals, customize system designs, and support project teams to ensure smooth installations. Strong communication skills and a passion for delivering tailored smart home experiences are essential. This position offers commission-based earnings along with a structured stipend to support your success.
Software, Skills, and Technical Experience
Proven experience with Client-Facing Sales Support
Smart Home System Design is a huge plus
Highly analytical thinker with strong ability to troubleshoot and refine designs
A self-aware, resourceful, and highly driven professional with a polished presence
Proficient in iPoint and System Survey software for proposals and presentations
Confident presenting AV, Control4, Lighting systems
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to engage with clients, technical support, and manufacturer reps to verify product solutions
Experience with lighting design layouts, including scene planning and keypad configurations
Responsibilities
Complete client intake forms during site visits and debrief with the Design Engineer to fully understand project scope; participate directly in client consultations, particularly for new construction and custom projects
Analyze and review designs to proactively identify potential issues and craft solutions that support project success and client satisfaction
Develop and present system designs using iPoint and System Survey, tailoring proposals to align with client needs and close sales
Customize Scope of Work (SOW) templates to clearly communicate system features, benefits, and investment levels
Act as a liaison between the Design team and Project Management to ensure clear communication and successful project handoffs
Create lighting design layouts, including scene settings, keypad button configurations, and load schedules, to support client approval and installation clarity
Manage and coordinate Change Order (C/O) documentation during projects; identify upsell opportunities where appropriate
Communicate finalized design details to the Programming team to ensure accurate implementation
Provide remote support to on-site installation teams during deployment when needed
Assist with change order creation, proposal development, and work scope expansion
Build and maintain strong client relationships through consultative design and technical expertise
Collaborate with a skilled team of technicians, project managers, and administrative staff in a positive, solutions-focused environment
