The Procurement Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Procurement Manager in purchasing supplies, processing animal orders, calling vendors, and emailing clients. Works as a liaison between animal husbandry, Research Associate teams, administration, and vendors to obtain materials required to operate business.

- Verifies with site leads and management about current inventory levels and keep records to prevent inventory gaps.
- Negotiates with vendors for best pricing as needed.
- Places orders and schedules shipping/delivery times for ordered animals and supplies.
- Assists laboratory and administrative personnel, ensuring all purchasing documentation has appropriate authorizations.
- Verifies that product information, shipping information, cost and delivery dates are all correct before obtaining authorization to place an order.
- Carefully checks purchase orders for accuracy, completeness and clarity.
- Coordinates storage of any relevant shipments.
- Follows up on order discrepancies and shortages.
- Enters data into numerous systems with a high attention to detail.
- Generates purchase reports and purchase history.
- Supports Procurement Manager in organizing and maintaining records for any audit required.
- Develops creative new approaches to meeting customer needs.
- Gathers and analyzes information skillfully and identifies problems in a timely manner.

II. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
- Work in a standing position requiring bending and stretching of arms and legs throughout regular work shift.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously to meet goals and deadlines
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Strong emphasis on accuracy and detail
- Works well in group problem solving situations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- Add/subtract/multiply and divide numbers using online software and perform these operations using units of US money, weight measurement, volume, and units.
- Must be a self-starter and able to work independently.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1+ year of purchasing experience.
