  • Responsibilities

    ANIMAL CARE AND HUSBANDRY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manage commercial production rodent standard and transgenic mouse breeding colonies
    • Responsible for accurate computer records of mouse colonies
    • Provide sampling for rodent genotyping
    • Monitor genomic conformance to breeding standards
    • Establish and manage diet-induced mouse models of metabolic disease
    • Reserve, select, and accurately pack animals for customer orders following established shipping procedures
    • Ensure that high standards of animal welfare are met
    • Provide food, water and clean housing to animals according to applicable SOPs
    • Perform routine animal health observations

    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Monitor temperature and humidity, reporting any issues to supervisor or manager.
    • Computer record keeping proficiency
    • Maintain vivarium cleanliness in accordance with applicable SOPs
    • Order and maintain accurate supply inventory
    • Maintain and organize supply areas
    • Other duties as assigned

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    • Dexterity of physical condition to operate all job duties; lift and move objects regularly throughout the shift.
    • Work in a standing position requiring bending and stretching of arms and legs throughout regular work shift.
    • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

    SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

    • Must avoid contact with rodent species outside of work.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    • High School Diploma or equivalent.  Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
    • 1 year of experience working with animals in a laboratory setting preferred

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

    • Standard work week M-F
    • Will need to be available for rotating weekends and holidays
