    KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Working at the direction of a Project Manager, perform a variety of animal procedures to support client research projects (listed below, rodent techniques are required for RA 1 position).

    • Perform a variety of animal procedures to support company and client research projects (e.g., set up the study forms, set up the procedure rooms, label and ship samples, etc.).
    • Conduct various procedures including routes of drug administration (oral, SC, IP, IM, IV), blood and tissue collection and grafting techniques.
    • Complete study reports.
    • Perform other job duties after training or under supervision.
    • Accommodate varying workload and work on weekends, holidays, and evenings, when needed.
    • Perform routine animal health related tasks when needed (e.g., change cages or food).

    TRAVEL REQUIRED BETWEEN BAY AREA EXPLORA SITES TO PERFORM REQUIRED TASKS

    Be responsible for the physical environment for a group of assigned laboratory animals

    Perform routine animal husbandry: cage changing, health monitoring, food/water, breeding

    Perform all tasks in accordance to established protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs)

    Operate and maintain lab equipment (i.e. isoflurane machine).

    Operate computer terminal and responsible for data entry.

    Maintain accurate study records in a legible and organized manner.

    Assist in maintaining lab/facility inventories.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • BS in the biological sciences or a minimum of 2-5 years hands-on in vivo working experience.
    • Proficiency in rodent handling: dosing skills (oral gavage, intravenous, intraperitoneal, subcutaneous, etc.), blood and tissue collection and grafting techniques. Skills in animal survival surgeries are a plus (cannulation, orthotopic or SC tumor removal, perfusions and etc).
    • Must have a general understanding of animal welfare regulations and of the importance of ethical use of animals in research.
    • Understand drug development and have basic knowledge in biology, pharmacology and pharmacokinetics.
    • Ability to maintain detailed records of experimental methods
    • Have strong organizational skills in performing assigned tasks without supervision.
    • Must be detail oriented and able to multi-task.
    • Flexibility to work within changing shifts, including weekends, holiday, and evenings to accommodate business needs.
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point (Understanding of statistic programs a plus).
    • Ability to use a computer, familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
