SUMMARY:
We are seeking an exploration geologist to support a rare earth element exploration program in Idaho. The role involves geological mapping, geochemical sampling, and integration of geological observations with geophysical datasets to support exploration targeting.
The position is primarily field-based during the exploration season and will involve working in small teams in remote terrain around Salmon, Idaho. Depending on exploration results, the role may also support future drill programs, including core logging.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct detailed geological mapping and structural interpretation
• Carry out soil, rock chip, and channel sampling programs
• Identify and describe lithology, alteration, and structural features in the field
• Support exploration targeting through geological observations and data interpretation
• Assist with drill program planning and target development
• Assist with drill programs if they proceed, including core logging
• Integrate geological observations with geochemical and geophysical datasets
• Support interpretation of a variety of geophysical datasets
• Maintain accurate field notes and digital geological datasets
• Compile and organize exploration data using GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS
• Prepare field summaries and contribute to internal technical reports
• Ensure sample management and QAQC procedures are followed
FIELD WORK:
• Significant field component including hiking, mapping, and sampling in rugged terrain
• Work in small exploration teams in remote areas
• Use GPS and digital mapping tools for navigation and data collection
• Operate 4x4 vehicles on rough access roads and occasionally UTVs
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Earth Sciences
• Experience in mineral exploration or field geology, ideally early career level
• Strong field geology skills including mapping and rock identification
• Ability to work safely and effectively in remote field environments
• Valid driver’s license
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
• Experience with geological mapping and geochemical sampling programs
• Familiarity with ArcGIS or QGIS
• Experience with drill core logging or drill program support
• Experience integrating geological, geochemical, and geophysical datasets
• First aid certification, 4WD, or UTV training
PHYSICAL AND FIELD REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must be able to safely perform the physical demands of the role, including:
• Hiking long distances over rough and uneven terrain
• Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
• Digging and manual sample collection
• Working extended days outdoors in variable weather conditions
• Operating safely in remote environments
• Comfortable working at elevations around 7000 ft
