    Gear and Logistics Specialist

    Overview:

    Explore Austin is seeking qualified applicants to manage gear and logistics at our warehouse in South Austin. The Warehouse Manager will work as part of the program team to manage, maintain and organize outdoor adventure gear, bikes, vehicles, and trailers. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and manage their own time and tasks. Candidates also must have some familiarity with outdoor gear including backpacks, mountain bikes, canoes, climbing gear, technical apparel, etc.

    This position is part-time at 15-20 hours per week. Employee is required to work a minimum of 4 hours on Friday and from 7:30am to 4:30pm every Saturday. Explore Austin is looking for a candidate that is willing to commit to 1 year or more in this role.

    Job Responsibilities:

    Organize and inventory gear: create and implement systems for organization, clean and organize the warehouse on a weekly basis, keep a running inventory of all gear, train Trip Leaders on new processes and enforce existing processes, organize emergency and medical equipment.

    Maintain and repair damaged gear: sort through any damaged or faulty gear on a weekly basis, repair broken gear as much as possible, order replacements for gear that is damaged beyond repair.

    Maintain and repair bike fleet: maintain a fleet of 40+ mountain bikes, work through everything from minor adjustments to major repairs, maintain organized systems for tracking repair needs.

    Perform basic vehicle & trailer maintenance: track required regular maintenance on vans & trailers, take vans to the mechanic when needed, clean vans, perform basic maintenance tasks (check oil, replace lights, etc.)

    Coordinate all ground transportation, including booking bus transport in the summer.

    Handle food & supplies: purchase food for groups of up to 120 on a weekly basis. Inventory and manage refrigerator and food cabinet. Purchase additional supplies (trash bags, paper towels, etc.) when needed.

    Put on annual garage sale: coordinate garage sale event to sell unused or retired gear, collect extra donations for the garage sale, advertise and promote the garage sale.

    Attend the weekly Saturday Challenge Meeting at the Explore Austin office (1111 W 24th St Suite 201, Austin, TX 78705).

    Required Skills & Qualifications:

    Advanced bike maintenance skills

    Basic knowledge of vehicle (truck and 15 passenger van) maintenance

    Familiarity with a wide variety of outdoor gear including climbing gear and mountain bikes.

    Ability to use basic hand tools, basic carpentry skills are preferred

    Strong organization skills

    Ability to self-motivate / manage your own time

    Experience with outdoor adventure education is preferred

    Wilderness medicine knowledge is preferred

    Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more

    Compensation:

    $15/hour
