    Join a dynamic team to revamp volunteer and alumni recruitment, engagement, and resources while creating sustainable systems for an Austin-based youth adventure and mentorship program.

    Explore Austin teams low-income, minority youth (Explorers) with caring and committed adult Mentors for a six-year journey, using the outdoors as a classroom to teach youth leadership. Explore Austin believes that through the support of a dedicated mentor and exposure to profound outdoor adventure, adolescents are provided with the conditions they need to develop life skills, such as grit, persistence, and optimism. Youth enter Explore Austin as sixth graders and become a part of a 20-member team: 5 Mentors and 15 Explorers. We currently serve 300 at-risk youth, who represent some of the most underserved areas of Austin, and 100 Mentors.

    The Explore Austin Volunteer and Alumni Coordinator will assist with:

    Analyzing our current volunteer recruitment system and developing new recruitment strategies to meet strategic goals;

    Creating a sustainable system for year-round volunteer recruitment;

    Managing social media platforms for our volunteer community and developing volunteer resources for our website;

    Volunteer and alumni communication and database tracking;

    Establishing a calendar of engagement events and helping organize and coordinate volunteer events and trainings such as lunch and learns and our annual mentor training summit;

    Managing our alumni network.

    The Volunteer and Alumni Coordinator is expected to:

    Work closely with and synthesize expectations from Executive, Program, and Development staff in order to create the best possible processes and tools to achieve goals for all departments;

    Work a schedule aligning with our Programs team from Tuesday-Saturday and Sundays as needed (Tues.-Fri. 9-5; Weekend hours may vary)

    Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree in a field related to job responsibilities

    Strong written and verbal communication skills

    Ability to create sustainable strategies, processes, and systems from scratch with limited resources

    Experience in volunteer and event coordination

    Interest in web design and/or videography for developing online resources

    Versatility, flexibility, a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm

    Attention to detail

    Demonstrated interest in youth development and/or outdoor education

    Ability to work in a variety of weather outdoors including the ability to lift 40 lbs.

    Bilingual Spanish/English preferred

    *Please note that there is an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer stipend of $1,150/month for this position.
