    The Role As a Backend Platform/Database Engineer you will be responsible for helping architect new systems and features, and scale our infrastructure to support hundreds of thousands of cardholders in the coming months. This includes exploring different technologies to improve our current structure and feeling comfortable with owning/building out this (critical) component of the business.

    You Will

    • Build software services and platforms that will improve the experience for every single Extra cardholder
    • Architect and design systems, and data models around moving funds and processing payments
    • Improve existing, and implement new technologies to help us scale to millions of cardholders
    • Help drive sound technical decision making within our backend database infrastructure and lead ownership over it alongside the team
    • Plug into the development of our existing Kubernetes, MySQL, Node.js stack (we're open to exploring other stacks, notably Elixir and Cassandra)
    • Regularly participate in code reviews and other team functions (like presenting your work!)
    • Work closely with our Head of Engineering and overall engineering team

    REQUIREMENTS

    • 4-5 Years of Software Engineering Experience with a focus on Backend Infrastructure Development (ideally in fintech)
    • Familiarity with the tradeoffs of various RDBMS and NoSQL databases
    • Closely familiar with relational databases, query optimization
    • Have built or been a primary contributor to backend infrastructures that have managed sensitive information for millions of customers
    • Plus: familiar with US payment rails, like ACH, RTP, Dwolla, etc.
    • Strong CS fundamentals and problem solving skills
    • Effective communication skills with technical and non-technical team members, a positive attitude, and the ability to give and receive constructive feedback
