Position Overview The Fitness Manager oversees all aspects of the Personal Training (PT) department, ensuring an exceptional member experience, strong team performance, and consistent revenue growth. This leader is responsible for managing the PT team, driving consultations and sales, developing trainers, overseeing SGT classes, and maintaining high operational and service standards.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Management
Recruit, hire, and onboard all Personal Trainers.
Provide ongoing coaching, development, and performance evaluations to ensure trainers deliver high-quality sessions and maintain professional standards.
Conduct monthly 1-on-1 meetings with each trainer to review performance, goals, client experience, and development needs.
Oversee all Personal Training programming to ensure trainers are delivering structured, goal-based workout plans for every client.
Ensure trainers consistently follow department standards, including:
Showing up on time and prepared for sessions
Providing clients with written, progressive programs
Tracking client progress through measurable data
Following proper session structure, cueing, and safety procedures
Maintaining high levels of communication, professionalism, and accountability
Create weekly schedules, ensure trainers' availability is updated, and maintain appropriate staffing levels to meet member demand.
Foster a team culture built on professionalism, energy, member engagement, and continuous improvement.
Sales & Consultations
Conduct Personal Training consultations with prospective clients and convert them into active PT clients.
Coach trainers on effective consultation delivery, communication, and follow-up strategies.
Track daily, weekly, and monthly PT sales metrics and ensure goals are met or exceeded.
Ensure all leads are followed up with promptly, and hold trainers accountable for consistent communication and conversion.
Partner with the General Manager to create PT promotions, challenges, and retention strategies.
Small Group Training (SGT) Management
Oversee all SGT classes, ensuring schedules meet member demand and classes are coached effectively.
Train and certify PT staff to lead SGT classes with consistency, energy, and proper programming.
Manage SGT attendance, member feedback, and class performance metrics.
Ensure SGT programming is updated regularly and aligns with club standards.
Operational Excellence
Maintain compliance with all safety procedures, club policies, and training standards.
Ensure high PT floor presence from the training team, promoting engagement and approachability.
Manage PT billing, session usage, package renewals, and client retention procedures.
Monitor PT equipment and training spaces to ensure cleanliness, organization, and functionality.
Maintain accurate reporting for sessions, revenue, trainer performance, and department KPIs.
Member Experience
Ensure every PT client receives a professional, goal-oriented, and customized training experience.
Resolve client concerns quickly and ensure high retention through exceptional service.
Support general club operations as needed to enhance overall member satisfaction.
Qualifications
Certified Personal Trainer (NASM, ACE, ACSM, or equivalent).
1–3 years of personal training experience; leadership or management experience preferred.
Strong understanding of fitness programming, behavior change, and consultative sales.
Excellent communication, leadership, and customer service skills.
High level of professionalism, organization, and accountability.
Performance Metrics
Personal Training revenue (monthly/quarterly targets).
Consultation-to-sale conversion rate.
Trainer productivity and session utilization.
SGT attendance and growth.
PT client retention and overall member satisfaction.
