    Position Summary : The FPV Drone UAS & MQT Instructor provides fulltime, onsite instruction and technical support to NSWG1 and NSWG2, developing, implementing, and instructing FPV curriculum; facilitating weekly currency flights and technical support; scheduling airspace, ranges, and facilities; and ensuring proper flight logging and compliance with standards. The instructor helps establish proficiency standards, integrates current hardware/software and operational payloads, and supports procurement inputs to further NSW UAS capabilities. The role operates within a rigorous security and safety framework and contributes monthly reporting to the Government.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Develop, implement, and instruct FPV curriculum; facilitate NSWG‑1/NSWG‑2 COIs.

    • Plan/facilitate training events including facility, airspace, and range access

    • Conduct weekly currency flights and provide technical support (e.g., repairs, troubleshooting)

    • Schedule airspace/ranges/facilities and support material inputs for FPV procurement & maintenance

    • Establish/validate proficiency standards (simulated/live hours, live/ordinance integrated strikes)

    • Integrate current UAS components/software; maintain currency on tactical applications

    • Ensure proper flight logging after training/events; submit monthly reports to COR

    Required Qualifications:

    • Must hold an active Secret Security Clearance

    • Valid U.S. driver's license

    • Ability to obtain a DoD CAC

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)

    • Clear and effective verbal and written communication

    • U.S. Citizen with a valid U.S. passport throughout PoP

    • Ability to maintain a UAS flight physical

    • Subject to drug testing requirements as specified (preemployment and random during PoP)

    • Provide monthly reports and participate in Government quality surveillance as required

    • Experience 3+ years flying, troubleshooting, and fixing FPVs across multiple UAS platforms in contested environments

    • Experience 3+ years with Betaflight and FPV simulator software

    • Experience implementing/evaluating/executing training curriculum for foundational flight and advanced piloting in combat/contested environments

    • Experience with soldering PCBAs and connecting electrical wiring.

    • Experience in cross-functional DoD teams

    • Experience vetting cutting-edge FPV/sUAS/cUAS hardware and software

    • Experience integrating operational payloads/communication pathways into UAS

    • Experience in counter-UAS TTPs

    • Hands-On Experience: With kinetic FPVs and associated employment techniques in recent conflicts

    • Certification: FAA Part 107 certified drone pilot

    Physical Ability to:

    • Work is not sedentary; requires walking, climbing shipboard stairs, standing, stooping, bending; must have adequate eyesight/hearing; no debilitating conditions that preclude austere environments or regular attendance.

    • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

    • Physically capable of instructing in the desert, jungle, uneven terrain, and maritime environments while maintaining situational awareness.

    • Provide medical readiness documentation from a provider.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, listen, and write. The employee frequently is required to use foot/ankle motions, hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
