    Job Description

    APPLICATIONS ENGINEER – HICKORY, NC SUMMARY:

    • Develops innovative early-stage processes for automation utilizing laser or other technologies to deploy into manufacturing
    • Able to develop processes that utilize new alternative technologies
    • Applies light / material interaction properties (for laser applications) and physics to select the correct tools to create a process that delivers a product that meets required specifications
    • Works within a diverse technical group to understand requirements and convey process concepts.
    • Contributes to the development of new principles and concept
    • Develops processes with line of sight to integration / automation
    • Works with mechanical and controls engineers to integrate newly developed processes

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • Has a broad understanding of laser platforms and application
    • Has some understanding of mechanical systems and process integration
    • Has had coursework or experience in optical systems
    • Can contribute to a technically diverse team
    • Has good communication skills
    • Has a willingness to learn new technologies
    • Possesses Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power Point skill
    • BS or higher required
    • Minimum experience: 3+ years

    DESIRED SKILLS:

    • Experience integrating processes into automated equipmen
    • Optical modeling experience (ex. Zemax)
    • Background in material properties
    • Knowledge of fiber optic cable assemblies
    • Prior experience developing laser processes
    • Prior experience developing high precision processes
    • Experience with various optical metrology systems like interferometers, vision systems, etc.
    • Experience using statistical software to guide process development
    • Master's degree in engineering or physics
