    Job Overview:

    Farris Wholesale is seeking a skilled, diligent, and adaptable Facilities Groundskeeper and Maintenance Technician to oversee the upkeep of our expansive primary facility in Tuscumbia, Alabama, provide maintenance support for several offsite warehouses, and assist in maintaining additional properties belonging to company ownership. The primary facility includes multiple metal warehouses, integrated office spaces, and a diverse inventory of equipment and vehicles. This role reports to the Executive team and is responsible for ground maintenance, facility and equipment repairs, and coordination with external vendors, while serving as the primary point of contact for fire and security alarm systems. The ideal candidate is a proactive professional with a strong work ethic, a commitment to safety, and an eagerness to acquire new skills.

    Job Details:

    Location: 220 Farris Drive, Tuscumbia, Alabama

    Position Type: Full-Time / Hourly (non-exempt)

    Schedule: Typical work week is Monday to Friday 7:00am – 4:30pm. Occasional work Saturdays may be required. This position requires On-Call availability for alarm system responses and emergency maintenance needs.

    Travel: Occasional travel is expected for this position within a 20-mile radius of the main facility.

    Responsibilities:

    Grounds and Landscape Management

    Maintain the aesthetic and functional integrity of the expansive facility grounds through regular mowing, trimming, and debris removal using tractors, mowers, and utility vehicles.

    Inspect and repair perimeter fencing to ensure security and structural soundness.

    Implement landscaping initiatives including weed control, seasonal upkeep, and pressure washing, to uphold a professional appearance.

    Facility Maintenance

    Perform routine inspections and maintenance across multiple warehouses at the primary facility, which include various sprinkler systems and heating configurations, as well as attached office spaces.

    Perform basic carpentry tasks, such as repairing doors, shelving, and partitions.

    Conduct minor electrical repairs, including light fixture replacements and troubleshooting basic wiring issues, while adhering to safety protocols.

    Inspect and maintain fire extinguishers regularly to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations.

    Monitor and service HVAC (e.g. routine filter changes) and plumbing systems (e.g., toilets) within office spaces, addressing minor issues promptly.

    Ensure the functionality and security of dock doors, walk doors, and loading docks at the primary facility and offsite warehouses.

    Equipment Maintenance

    Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs on a diverse fleet of equipment, including forklifts, trucks, wrap machines, yard tractors, aerial lifts, trailers, and company vehicles.

    Maintain detailed maintenance records to ensure equipment reliability and compliance with operational standards.

    Coordinate with external vendors for complex repairs, overseeing work to ensure quality and timely completion.

    Manage relationships with external contractors for major repairs, including HVAC, plumbing, and equipment maintenance, ensuring adherence to company standards and budgets.

    Vendor & Alarm System Coordination

    Serve as the primary point of contact for the primary facility’s fire and security alarm systems, responding to alerts and coordinating with service providers, including after-hours as needed.

    Oversee security measures at offsite warehouses, conducting inspections and coordinating with security vendors to prevent unauthorized access.

    Respond to evolving maintenance needs with flexibility and efficiency.

    Maintain organized records of maintenance activities, vendor interactions, and safety inspections.

    Qualifications:

    Education and Experience

    High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in maintenance, electrical, or carpentry preferred.

    Minimum of 3 years’ experience in groundskeeping, facility maintenance, or a related field.

    Demonstrated proficiency in operating and maintaining equipment such as tractors, mowers, forklifts, or aerial lifts.

    Experience with fire extinguisher inspections or alarm system coordination is a plus.

    Valid Driver’s License

    Competence in basic carpentry, electrical, and plumbing repairs.

    Strong problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.

    Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects, working at heights, and operating in various weather conditions.

    Strong organizational skills with the ability to prepare, maintain, and execute mass scheduling for all areas of responsibility.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:

    Physical Requirements

    Ability to lift up to 50 pounds while performing routine tasks requiring bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods of time.

    Working Conditions

    The role is based at the primary facility in Tuscumbia, Alabama, with occasional travel to offsite warehouses (all located within 20-miles of our main facility).

    Work involves both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to varying weather conditions.

    On-call availability is required for alarm system responses and emergency maintenance needs.

    Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols are mandatory.

    Compensation & Benefits:

    Compensation

    $28 - $35 hourly rate based on experience and qualifications.
