    Position Overview

    As a Facility Engineer in a startup solar manufacturing environment, you will play a critical role in designing, launching, and scaling a high-volume production facility from the ground up. The Facility Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, implementing and maintaining all facility related systems to support safe, efficient, and reliable Factory operations. This role oversees major infrastructure projects, manages contractors and vendors, and ensures all building systems meet regulatory, environmental, and operational standards. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, project management capability, and the ability to lead facility initiatives in a fast paced manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for hands-on engineers who thrive in fast-paced, evolving environments.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Facility Systems Engineering & Installation

    Lead the design, purchase, installation, and startup and ongoing operation of all facility systems, including:

    • Compressed Dry Air (CDA) compressors, HVAC systems
    • Electrical distribution systems and back systems
    • Life safety systems - fire protection, alarms, emergency systems, security ststems
    • Other critical utilities and infrastructure - chilled water, exhaust, etc.
    • Develop technical requirements from FUMs for new equipment and upgrades.
    • Ensure proper system integration, commissioning, and turnover to operations.

    Facility Operation and Optimization Management

    • Maintain and update the Facility Utility Matrix in coordination with vendor and engineering teams.
    • Track utility loads, capacity planning, resource allocation, and consumption trends.
    • Work closely with Finance team on selection of key power providers and savings programs to drive lowest cost options.
    • Identify efficiency improvement opportunities and support Equipment Engineering and Maintenance initiatives.
    • Build preventive maintenance programs from scratch
    • Troubleshoot facility failures in real time to prevent production downtime
    • Continuously improve reliability, energy efficiency, and system uptime

    Contractor & Vendor Management

    • Oversee external contractors for infrastructure design, buildout, and installation activities.
    • Prepare scopes of work, review engineering drawings, and ensure contractor compliance with project requirements.
    • Coordinate construction schedules, permitting, site access, safety oversight, and project deliverables.
    • Evaluate bids and manage vendor relationships to ensure quality, reliability, and cost control.

    Facilities Operations & Compliance

    • Drive safe operations of all facility systems, and proper hardware, processes and programs for the general facility building and site grounds.
    • Ensure all facility systems are maintained in accordance with operational standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Support preventive maintenance planning and troubleshoot utility system issues as needed.
    • Assist with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance for facility related systems.
    • Develop facility documentation, SOPs, equipment records, and engineering change documentation.
    • Support all ISO certification requirements.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Facility Engineering, or related technical field.
    • 5+ years of experience in facility engineering, utilities engineering, or facility management—manufacturing environment of high automation and relevant infrastructure required.
    • Experience with factory design and startup preferred
    • Strong knowledge of facility utilities: HVAC, CDA, electrical distribution, chilled water, life safety, fire protection, backups, etc.
    • Experience managing contractors and vendors for industrial construction or infrastructure projects.
    • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and construction documents.
    • Familiarity with building codes, OSHA requirements, and relevant safety/permit regulations.
    • Strong project management skills with experience delivering projects on time and within budget.
    • Excellent communication and cross functional collaboration skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast paced environment

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in solar, semiconductor, or advanced manufacturing.
    • Certifications such as PMP, PE, or CFM.
    • Experience with energy optimization or sustainability initiatives.
    • Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) or CMMS platforms.

    Working Conditions

    • Primarily office and manufacturing environment.
    • Ability to be on the production floor and in mechanical rooms as required.
    • May require periodic evening or weekend work to support construction or system startup and troubleshooting.
