We’re looking for a reliable and energetic Facility Maintenance Technician to join our team and help care for the historic buildings and beautiful grounds of the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum! In this role, you’ll support both the upkeep of our site and the guest experience by ensuring everything is clean, safe, and running smoothly.

Major Responsibilities

• Clean restrooms, offices, hallways, and public areas by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing.
• Perform minor repairs and maintenance—replace light bulbs, patch walls, report major repairs, and more.
• Maintain historical buildings in accordance with SHPO standards.
• Operate equipment such as vacuums, buffing machines, and power tools safely and effectively.
• Assist with groundskeeping tasks such as mowing, trimming, and watering plants.
• Perform scheduled site shifts: greet guests, monitor safety, and share the history of the Lighthouse.
• Ensure OSHA safety guidelines are followed while using ladders, harnesses, and tools.
• Keep maintenance supplies organized and report restocking needs.
• Support event setups, equipment moves, and special projects.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of experience in maintenance, custodial, or janitorial work preferred.
• Strong customer service and communication skills—must enjoy engaging with the public!
• Experience with tools and light repairs a plus.
• Basic knowledge of historical preservation standards (training provided).
• Passion for history and storytelling a plus!

Essential Functions/Physical Requirements

This is an active position that requires lifting (up to 30 lbs), climbing the Lighthouse tower, and working in typical Florida weather conditions. Must be able to stand and move for extended periods. CPR certification will be provided. Flexibility is essential to meet the needs of our fast-paced, guest-centered environment.
