  • Responsibilities

    Position Description:

    This position supports the University in the hiring and ongoing employment needs of faculty and supports the Provost's office with event planning, communication, budget, and scheduling as needed.

    Major Responsibilities:

    • Assists with the processing, evaluation, and development of initial and ongoing faculty appointment letters and faculty services processes for all full-time and part-time faculty.
    • Maintains and organizes all endowed professorships and coordinates annual impact reports with Advancement.
    • Assists the deans with the hiring process as necessary, including corresponding with candidates.
    • Updates and maintains central database records for faculty in Colleague and/or Scholarly.
    • Maintains faculty qualifications documentation per HLC guidelines.
    • Serves as liaison for faculty employment with Human Resource Services and Payroll.
    • Serves as liaison for academic departments and colleges for the sabbatical, tenure, and promotion process.

    Required Knowledge and Skills:

    • Bachelor's degree
    • Three-plus years in an academic office and/or hiring experience preferred

    Other Qualifications:

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community with diplomacy
    • Writes in a precise, well-organized manner using appropriate vocabulary, grammar, and spelling
    • Experience working with spreadsheets (Google and Excel), and strong attention to detail
    • Strong organizing and coordinating skills
    • Experience with multi-unit coordination
    • Conflict resolution and/or mediation skills
    • Intermediate word processing, spreadsheet, and data entry skills
    • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive matters and documents
    • Ability to identify opportunities to improve existing practices; willingness to explore alternatives; adaptability
    • Strong service orientation
    • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
    • Ability to use independent judgement and to manage and impart confidential information
    • Experience with hiring and other human resource functions

    Salary Range: $44,000 - $46,000

    All offers of employment with Valparaiso University are contingent upon the clear results of a thorough background check.   • Qualifications

    A High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred but not require. Qualified candidates will have 3-5 years of experience. Basic PLC/CNC knowledge is a plus. The ability to read to read tape measures and efficiently operate all other required measuring devices is also required. Candidates best suited for this role will have a proven ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment. Basic ability to read, write, speak, and understand English is required for safety purposes.
