    Recovery Specialist

    REPORTS TO

    Recovery Specialist Supervisor

     

    JOB PURPOSE

    Recovery Specialist (RS) is responsible for the daily care and support of clients in the residential, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs. RS is primarily responsible for ensuring the client population is safe and supported throughout the treatment process. RS is secondarily responsible for supporting and responding to the needs of the clinical staff (Clinical Director, Clinical Nurse Manager, Primary Therapists, Nutrition Director, Food Services Director) in support of client care. RS is assigned to a treatment team that is supervised by a masters-level Community Therapist and managed by the Operations Manager (OM). RS is also responsible for the day-to-day operations, facility management and cleanliness, availability of essential items to include food and food-related items, support the medication management and dispensing processes, communications of facility discrepancies to OM, Clinical Nurse Manager, Business Director or Clinical Director.

    Direct client care

    · Work directly with a disordered eating population with a history of trauma and attachment disorder

    · Provide direct client care through oversight of supported meal processes, facility maintenance, respond to routine requests in accordance with patient privileges and clinical approval

    · Ensure the safety and well-being of client population through direct interventions and/or escalation to OM or clinical team

    · Dispense medications per Medical Director, Clinical Nurse Manager and OM guidance and document appropriately

    · Fully understand and comprehend current and future Fairhaven Policies and Procedures for Employees and Clients

    · Routinely review Transition Binder to client updates, facility communications

    · Document client interactions, issues, events as required in the Transition Binder

    Supported meals

    · Under the guidance of the Nutrition Director and Food Services Director, prepare and plate meals for clients at assigned times

    · Ensure meal preparation and plating is sanitary, to include proper hand-washing, use of food preparation gloves, avoidance of any contaminating materials

    · Share in meal with the client population, demonstrating an appropriate and healthy relationship with food

    · Respond appropriately to client issues during meal, including offering alternative authorized food options

    · Provide post-meal processing time to allow clients adequate time to finish meal and digest food, as well as minimize any emotional reactivity to the meal experience

    · Supervise community cleanup of meal, to include fully cleaned tables, food preparation items, kitchen, trash removal

    · Document individual client meal information, as required

    FOOD ALLERGIES, MEDICAL CONDITIONS, FOOD-RELATED PERSONAL BELIEF SYSTEM AND GENERAL SAFETY POLICY DISCLOSURE STATEMENT

    · Fairhaven Treatment Center provides a unique treatment program that requires specialized care related to food consumption and dietary behaviors that are bona fide occupational requirements for employment for all employees with direct client contact (i.e., Recovery Staff, Nutrition Staff, Clinical Staff, Interns). Consequently, prospective and existing employees are subject to the following requirements:

    o All food allergies, medical conditions and food-related personal beliefs that prohibit the eating of specific foods must be disclosed at the time of hire

      • Food allergies and medical conditions that can interfere with job requirements will require documentation from a qualified medical professional detailing your specific food allergy and/or medical condition and​ the appropriate intervention in case of accidental exposure
        • Severe food allergies that require Epi-Pen rescue will require employee with the risk of a severe allergic reaction to have access to a personal Epi-Pen at all times
        • Due to the unique nature of job requirements, food allergies, medical conditions and food-related personal beliefs that prohibit specific foods from the diet may be a disqualification for employment

    o At time of hire or in the event of onset of a food-related complication after time of hire, the employee may request an accommodation when the dietary need causes a deviation from Fairhaven's job requirement to prepare, plate, and share meals with our clients. The Company will consider the request but reserves the right to offer its own accommodation to the extent permitted by law. Some, but not all, of the factors that the Company will consider are cost, the effect that an accommodation will have on current established policies and the burden on operations, including other employees, when determining a reasonable accommodation. At no time will the Company question the validity of a person’s dietary concerns.

     

    Client safety

    · Ensure clients have access to personal grooming items (hair dryer, razor, scissors) under the supervision of RSM. These items must be stored in locked cabinet in assigned client bin when not in use by the client

    · Routinely check (several times per hour when not in individual or group session) on clients and have 100% knowledge of their locations at all times

    · Immediately report any safety or health concerns to RSM, Clinical Nurse Manager or clinical staff

    Facility maintenance and security

    · Ensure all external facility doors are locked at all times (exception of Business Office entry door from hours of 8 AM – 5 PM)

    · Ensure all bedroom and bathroom doors are locked when not in use (unless otherwise documented in Transition Binder)

    · Ensure all refrigerators, pantries and food storage locations are locked when not in use

    · Ensure security alarm is in on position between the hours of 10PM and 7 AM

    · Maintain the cleanliness of facility with primary focus on common areas

    · Report any damage, maintenance issues, supply issues to the RSM during assigned shift

    Fairhaven client experience

    · Take ownership and pride in being part of the client care team to deliver quality client care and support

    Additional duties and responsibilities

    · Identify facility discrepancies and communicate to business staff when needed

    · Routinely walk up/down flight of stairs

    · Lifting/carrying objects up to 30 lbs, including up 1 – 2 flights of stairs

    · Perform additional duties as required by Fairhaven and appropriate for job function

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    · Medical Assistant (CMA), Nurse Assistant (CNA) or Behavioral Technician, or

    · Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field preferred (exceptions are made by the approval of the clinical director).

    · 2 or more years of experience in mental healthcare preferred but not required

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Residential treatment services are 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. Partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs are 6 days per week (Monday – Friday from 8:30 AM to 8 PM and Saturday from 8:30 AM to 2 PM). Employees can expect to work on nights, weekends and holidays depending upon specific job role and location.

    Fairhaven Treatment Center clients can be expected to have a severe trauma history, complicated by co-occurring conditions such as chemical dependency, dissociative disorders, severe PTSD, and other emotional and behavioral disorders. Prospective employees with a history of eating disorders, trauma or related conditions are advised to strongly consider the appropriateness of this work environment on personal mental health condition. All Fairhaven prospective and current employees are advised to seek treatment from a qualified medical or behavioral health professional in the event of a history of mental illness.

    As an eating disorders treatment facility, employees in client-facing roles can be expected to eat meals with clients. Employees in client-facing roles must be able to demonstrate a healthy relationship with food as demonstrated by conforming to Fairhaven treatment standards.
