    Job Description

    POSITION DETAILS

    The Chief of Staff (COS) will be an active participant in fulfilling the mission and strategic plan of Families First.

    The COS will be a critically important role enabling the CEO to work most effectively with internal and external stakeholders to fulfill commitments to Families First clients, partners, employees, board of directors and funders. The COS will ensure streamlined activities within the organization are based on the priorities of the CEO and Executive Team. As a member of the Executive Team, this individual will contribute to the long-term success of the Agency. 

    IDEAL CANDIDATE 

    The preferred candidate will be a seasoned leader who understands how to move a diverse range of stakeholders forward through collaboration and communication in executing the strategic vision of Families First, connecting its programs, resource development, finance and information technology. Experience in a government, non-profit, community action or other comparable grant-funded organizations of is preferred. The COS must be able to operate with limited or no supervision, be well organized, and remain flexible and diplomatic at all times. This individual must be compassionate with staff; able to communicate directly with clients and senior executives; prioritize tasks and be comfortable in a dynamic and rapidly changing work environment. The candidate must also be comfortable implementing a dynamic Continuous Quality Improvement agenda throughout the organization and spearheading innovative programs and initiatives that will propel Families First to a preeminent leader on the Westside and throughout metropolitan Atlanta.

    PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES (INTENDED TO BE AN OVERVIEW, NOT AN EXHAUSTIVE LIST OF DUTIES)

    •  Serves as back up and “right hand” leadership for the CEO and executive team.
    • Serve as point of contact and project leader of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) integration throughout Families First.
    • Collaborate with Chief Development Officer and key leadership to incubate new streams of revenue through earned income, grants, community fundraising and other innovative protocols.
    • Handles a wide area of executive driven tasks to anticipate and plan for future organizational change, anticipated workload, staff engagement and leadership succession.  Lead cross-functional projects across department lines and manage work teams/contractors to successful implementation. Champion staff morale and a positive work environment.
    • Direct supervision and oversight of the Human Capital function to ensure the best talent are in place, engaged and supported to elevate the children and families of the Westside and Greater Atlanta.
    • Oversight of the Information Technology function to ensure the integration of the most efficient and productive technology into the Agency.  Partner with marketing/fundraising to develop audience-building strategies and project-manage website/infrastructure enhancements.
    • Support the implementation and maintenance of a social media presence to promote a positive external identity and strengthen community relationships.
    • Acts as a point of contact between the CEO and first line management, employees or other stakeholders.
    • Scope, plan and execute multiple, often quick-turnaround projects with minimal outside assistance.
    • Work with appropriate stakeholders, including outside parties, to maintain and leverage key relationships and their respective interconnectivity.
    • Present timely work-in-progress updates to the CEO on the status of projects and any initiatives as listed above.
    • Represent the CEO in outside forums that the CEO cannot attend.
    • Review the capabilities of top-level staff, and mold the organization and staff assignments to best use the available talents and resources.  
    • Establish community support for the objectives of Families First.  Represent Families First in its dealings and relationships with community residents and organizations, local, state, and Federal governments, and other private and public agencies.  Seek out profitable merger and acquisition prospects; partnerships and new ventures.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION

    Required: Bachelor’s Degree in a field of Business Discipline or related studies.

    Preferred: Masters in Business Administration or relevant field

    A combination of demonstrated experience combined with education may be acceptable.

     

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

    •  Minimum 6 years progressively responsible executive leadership experience and management of staff.
    •  Ability to strengthen an ever-changing, collaborative workplace and organizational culture.
    • Highly-developed communications skills (written/verbal) interpersonal and savvy.
    • Proven track record of effectively interacting with board/senior management.
    • Results/action-orientation, project management skills.
    • Organizational and political agility with developed negotiation skills.
    • Unquestionable personal code of ethics, integrity, diversity and trust.
    • Strong strategic and financial analysis skills.
    • Ability to establish collaborative relationships with the community, including agencies, government entities, employers and organizations.
    • Ability to maintain leadership that is fluid in adjusting to emerging needs or shifting priorities.
    •  Comfortable and capable of seeing the big picture. Able to think conceptually and strategically, yet deliver measurable results as a “hands-on” contributor.
    • Confident leading change initiatives and restructure practices.
    • Highly resourceful with strong emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and analytical skills.
    • Ability to prepare and report to the Board of Directors.
