    Job Description

    POSITION SUMMARY: 

    The Development Manager, Corporate & Foundation Relations is an opportunity to join an established Atlanta-based nonprofit organization entering their 130th year of service to children and families. The organization, under the leadership of recently named CEO DePriest Waddy, is charting a new course for its future. This role is a critical member of the Development Department and will report to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and work in close collaboration with the entire team as well as across the organization.

    The Development Manager, Corporate & Foundation Relations, will be an entrepreneurial and creative fundraiser responsible for securing new income and building relationships to secure financial and volunteer support in pursuit of Families First’s financial goals.

    The manager will lead development activities to strengthen and grow long-term partnerships, develop new partnerships, and other key relationships that result in both immediate and long-term funding for the organization. The manager is expected to maintain strong relationships and effectively communicate with corporations and foundations.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

    • Responsible for the achievement of revenue performance targets.
    • Identify and enlist new funders through an entrepreneurial approach to prospect identification and cultivation.
    • Develop detailed, written cultivation and solicitation strategies for each prospect/donor; build multi-year strategies to achieve fundraising goals and to create mutually beneficial partnerships.
    • Steward portfolio of active partnerships; execute strategies for solicitation of these prospects; develop and implement strategies for retention and continual engagement.
    • Collaborate with the CDO and Grants Manager to maintain a forward-looking pipeline of opportunities.
    • Write proposals that fully engage corporate and foundation partners in ways that maximize value to both Families First and the partner.
    • Ensure effective strategies are utilized to increase income development opportunities with corporations and foundations. Income opportunities include, sponsorships, strategic alliances, strategic/budget supporting in-kind donations, and special events.
    • Work with the Chief Development Officer to monitor monthly progress against goals in order to identify corrective actions to address variances in performance against goals; deliver timely and accurate monthly dashboards of activity and results.
    • Collaborate on a new corporate partnership structure and benefits.
    • Participate in community activities which contribute to the acquisition and retention of corporate partners and potential board or committee members.
    • Work with development staff to formulate and administer an aggressive development plan with goals, objectives, and realistic timetables.

    Knowledge of fundraising strategies for major and principal corporate and foundation gifts.

    ·         Strong project management skills and demonstrated problem solving skills. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify problems and develop innovative solutions. 

    ·         Progressive experience in successful development programs and knowledge of “best practices” in development. Aptitude to assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    ·         Bachelor’s degree preferred.

    ·         Minimum of 5 years of development, corporate sponsorship, or new business development/corporate sales. Experience in corporate fundraising and corporate sponsorship acquisition is a plus.

    ·         Demonstrated track record of achieving increased revenue goals.

    ·         Experience working with a Customer Relationship Management System; knowledge of Raisers Edge or RE:NXT helpful.

    ·         High degree of literacy with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlooks, and Excel).

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work effectively in a fast-paced work environment.
    • Ability to connect with corporate donors, particularly at the C-suite level, including the ability to solicit donations.
    • Proven success in presenting compelling cases resulting in increased revenue.
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills; the ability to communicate effectively with donors and build relationships.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to include exceptional writing and editing.
    • Ability to communicate with all departments, working collaboratively as needed with a variety of people, creating and maintaining an innovative and cooperative staff work environment.
    • Detail oriented with strong organizational and planning skills.

    Must have access to reliable transportation and be able to transport yourself and materials to meetings and special events. Must be able to staff occasional evening and weekend meetings, events, and programs. Must be able to lift 30 pounds and perform setup/take down of event equipment.

     

    Additional Information

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Normal well-lit confidential office environment where there is little to no physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise and the like. May be required to meet with staff,clients and donors throughout the facility and in remote offices and locations.
