Responsibilities: • Advocate on behalf of clients by understanding their needs, effectively analyzing the situation and forming a strategy for a plan of action • Attend court proceedings as needed to represent clients • Communicate with senior partners and paralegals to effectively move through the civil litigation process • Manage the division of marital assets, including real estate, during divorce proceedings when needed • Keep client files properly organized and up to date • Develop case strategies, provide leadership, and guide paralegals and legal assistants • Handle full caseloads independently, from case inception to resolution • Conduct in-depth legal research and prepare memos on complex case issues • Appear in court for various family law proceedings, representing clients in high-stakes situations • Prepare clients for trials, advocate on their behalf, and work with experts when necessary • Oversee the division of marital assets and negotiate settlements in divorce cases • Maintain organized client files, ensuring documentation accuracy and timeliness • Cultivate relationships with clients, providing clear communication and emotional support through challenging situations Qualifications: • At least 1-2 years of working in a law firm on family law issues as well as real estate (determining marital property) is necessary • Strong knowledge base of representing plaintiffs and defendants • 4-year degree with a legal background and J.D. degree are necessary for this position • Prior work or studies in criminal justice preferred • Great negotiation and communication skills, particularly in stressful and emotional situations Who We’re Looking For:Experience: Minimum of 6 years in Family Law litigation and courtroom advocacy (required) • Licenses: Licensed to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia • Skill Set: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strategic problem-solving, and attention to detail • Mindset: A compassionate and resilient advocate with experience navigating high-stress, emotional cases with a client-focused approach • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in analyzing and summarizing legal documents with strong attention to detail • Team-Focused: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a supportive team environment Preferred Qualifications: • Estate Planning experience • Proven success in advocating for both plaintiffs and defendants • Strong negotiation skills, especially under stressful conditions Compensation: $125,000 - $130,000 yearly
