    Family Preservation Services of North Carolina partnered with the Caiyalynn Burrell Child Crisis Center.

    The Caiyalynn Burrell Child Crisis Center is a planned 16-bed facility-based crisis and detox program for children and adolescents. Located in Asheville, the center will provide an alternative to hospitalization for eligible children experiencing a mental health, substance use or intellectual or developmental disability (IDD) crisis.

    The RN is responsible for providing management of medication in conjunction with the Psychiatrist; conducting psychiatric and comprehensive clinical assessments; triaging clients that phone into facility or present to the facility; collaborating with community stakeholders and other providers on prospective admissions; completing all admissions charting for clients requiring inpatient treatment; assessing physical health needs; and providing a range of treatment, rehabilitation, and support services; provide supervision to RNs and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs); assign admissions as they present to the facility; organize and collect data for weekly and monthly reports; attend outside meetings as assigned by the Director; develop monthly RN and LPN schedule to provide 24/7 coverage and maintain therapeutic milieu on unit at all times.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    Under the direction of the psychiatrist and in collaboration with other RNs on the unit, develop, revise, maintain, and supervise unit psychopharmacologic and medical treatment and medication policies and procedures including transcribing, administering, evaluating and recording psychotropic medications prescribed by the psychiatrist; evaluate and chart psychotropic medication effectiveness, complications, and side effects; and complete required lab work according to protocol.

    Under the direction of the psychiatrist and in collaboration with other registered nurses on the unit, organize and manage the system of getting medication to clients and integrating medication administration tightly into clients’ individual treatment plans.

    Under the direction of the psychiatrist and in collaboration with other registered nurses on the unit, manage pharmaceuticals and medical supplies.

    In collaboration with the psychiatrist, coordinate, schedule, and administer medical assessments of client’s physical health, making appropriate referrals to community physicians for further assessment and treatment, and coordinate psychiatric treatment with medical treatment.

    In collaboration with the psychiatrist, take the lead role or participate in providing medication administration and medical services.

    Plan, coordinate and oversee initial and ongoing assessment activities.

    Conduct or participate in comprehensive clinical assessments to include assessment of: psychiatric history (e.g., onset, course and effect of illness, past treatment and responses, and risk behaviors), mental status, and diagnosis; physical health and dental health; use of drugs or alcohol; education and employment; social development and functioning; activities of daily living (e.g., self-care, living situation, nutrition, money management); and family/guardian structure and relationships.

    Adhere to the admission and other protocols when screening or triaging clients for admission to the facility for inpatient treatment.

    Collaborate with community stakeholders and other providers whenever a client is referred for inpatient treatment.

    Complete all admissions charting required to admit client for inpatient treatment; obtain signatures and dates on all consents.

    Planning, coordinating, and implementing treatment services to identified clientele - cognizant of cultural, ethnic and environmental differences

    Developing and implementing appropriate life skills behavior management strategies

    Observing, identifying, and screening for medical and psychological problems; responding in appropriate professional manner

    Crisis intervention with family members/guardians, including implementation of plan of safety; mandated reporting

    LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

    Must be licensed to practice in the State of North Carolina as a Registered Nurse with no current disciplinary actions.

    MUST MEET REQUIREMENTS FOR A QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL IN NORTH CAROLINA:

    Graduate of an accredited college with minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Nursing. Has 2 years of MH/DD/SA experience providing direct service to the population served. All individuals must be credentialed as a QP by meeting the requirements specified for Qualified Professional status according to 10A NCACV 27.G.104.
