    Service Philosophy

    Family Preservation Services (FPS) provides services in the client’s own environment or human services without walls. FPS does not own or operate any hospitals or residential facilities. Clients are served in their homes, neighborhoods, and communities. FPS began offering services in the Washington, DC area in the summer of 2004. FPS is certified ad licensed by the District of Columbia Department of Behavioral health (DBH) as a specialty provider. FPS accepts referrals from all District agencies.

    FPS offers the following DBH Mental Health Rehabilitation Services:

    Community Based Intervention (CBI)

    CBI is offered in the child’s natural setting. This includes behavior support, case management, and referral to community-based sources of support. CBI services are provided to children and youth aged 6 to 21 years old and to their families.

    Assertive Community Treatment (ACT)

    ACT is a specialty service that involves a multidisciplinary team approach offered in the adult’s natural setting. ACT helps those with serious and persistent mental illness. ACT help those who have not been successfully engaged in services and/or those who have not benefited from traditional mental health services. ACT services are provided to individuals aged 25 and older.

    Transitional Assertive Community Treatment (TACT)

    TACT is a subset of ACT, serves consumers from 18-29. TACT help those who have not been successfully engaged in services and/or those who have not benefited from traditional mental health services.

    SUMMARY

    Serves as a member of the Community Based Intervention (CBI) Team. The CBI Recovery Specialist is responsible for providing ethical, quality, direct services to those with complex, severe and persistent mental illness. The CBI Recovery Specialist provides culturally competent, medically necessary, treatment, rehabilitation, and support services to FPS consumers and collateral supports in compliance with Mental Health Rehabilitation Services (MHRS) and federal regulatory standards. The CBI Recovery Specialist provides services in the home, community and the office. CBI is a 24/7, approach to providing services, 365 days a year.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Provide authorized, skill-based, person-centered direct care services to Individuals, family, groups and collateral supports as part of an integrated team.

    Provides a range of developmental, age appropriate interventions to enhance functioning and well-being.

    Develop and facilitate family team meetings as required.

    Provides on-going screening of consumers’ mental illness, symptoms and response to treatment. Facilitates the timely completion of required standardized inventories including LOCUS, GAINS, Level of Function, Columbia Suicide, etc.).

    Provide on-call crisis intervention services as required and follows proper protocols during emergencies.

    Provide supportive services (i.e. Medicaid, clinic appointments, social service entitlements, and student support team meetings) to enhance the consumer’s ability to function in life situations.

    TRAVEL

    This position requires daily local travel.

    Must have a valid, unrestricted driver’s license and reliable transportation.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    A minimum of a Master’s Degree in human service related field with one year of post-Master’s clinical experience

    OR

    Bachelor’s degree and six years of post-graduate experience in working with the severe and persistently mental ill children and their families

    PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    DC Clinical License preferred.

    Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

    Specialized knowledge of children’s issues, trauma and substance use.

    Has knowledge and experience in implementing the MHRS regulations, policies and procedures.
