    Position summary:

    Under direction from the Executive Director, the Supportive Living Service (SLS) Specialist establishes and maintains a constructive and appropriate personal relationship with consumers to minimize risks of endangerment to the health, safety, and overall well-being of consumers. SLS Specialists promote full participation of consumers in their communities, encourages consumer socialization, and the building of relationships outside of the staff.

    A primary duty of an SLS Specialist is to enhance the ability of the consumer to lead a self-determining life and to make informed decisions by providing the support and information necessary to build their self-esteem and confidence. To accomplish these duties, the SLS Specialist obtains an understanding of the consumer’s preferences by studying the consumer’s Individual Service Plan, collaborating with the consumer’s family/advocates, and by spending time with the client. The SLS Specialist facilitates and teaches daily living routines to maximize skills, abilities, and independence. This position will be servicing a male client.

    Family Therapeutic Services, LLC is a family-owned and operated company that provides long-term therapeutic and care taking services (non-medical) to consumers with mental impairments, intellectual and cognitive disabilities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our outreach plans include personal care, independent housing, emotional therapy, behavioral modification supports, interactive health and recreational activities, and social and community transition.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Train and assist consumers in making healthy and safe choices that positively impact their life and their communities

    Train and assist consumers to grow in their socialization and relationship building skills

    Provide direct training and related support services

    Provide assistance with consumers wardrobes including selection of weather appropriate clothes and dressing as needed

    Assistance with hair and nail maintenance, oral care, and toileting

    Assistance in showering and shampooing

    Assistance with grocery shopping, meal planning, preparation, and eating regulations

    Assist in preparation for day program, bedtime routines, and waking

    Household maintenance including laundry, vacuuming, dusting, dishes, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen cleaning

    Health maintenance including administering and charting medications and treatments per physician’s orders

    Provide basic first aid as needed. Communicate health issues to the Program Director

    Schedule and attend medical appointments

    Perform weekly security checks on applicable safety equipment and document as required

    Review safety rules for each consumer and ensure their specific needs are met

    Assist with property management functions such as resolving repair needs etc.

    Other duties as agreed upon by the Executive/Program Director

    Job Qualifications:

    Must complete Livescan background check

    High school diploma or GED

    Be able to work effectively for and with individuals who have intellectual and behavioral differences

    Effectively support consumers in developing a community network in their community

    Be able to act independently and function as part of an overall team

    Keep accurate service delivery records

    Good judgment and reasoning skills a must

    Good communication skills and a willingness to listen

    Current TB test, CPR/First Aid Certification

    At least 18 years of age

    Ability to speak, read and write in English

    Proven organizational skills, prioritizing tasks and time management skills

    Internet skills and basic use of Word and other applications preferred

    Ability to complete basic arithmetic computations and perform tasks such as balancing a checkbook and recording expenditures

    Ability to follow oral and written instructions

    Knowledge of community resources

    Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, overnights, and holidays

    Must possess a valid CA driver’s license, have reliable transportation and proof of insurance as required by law

    90-day probationary period

    Compensation and Benefits:

    $15-17 hour DOE
