FARM & AGRICULTURE MAINTENANCE:
Bonton Farms is seeking a dedicated and reliable Farm & Agriculture Maintenance team member to support the daily upkeep and smooth operation of our farm and agricultural infrastructure. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the health of our crops, animals, and physical assets. Ideal candidates will have a hands-on mindset, a willingness to learn, and a strong work ethic that aligns with our mission of restoring lives, creating jobs, and providing access to healthy food in the Bonton community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Agriculture Operations Support:
Assist in planting, cultivating, harvesting, and processing crops.
Provide routine care for livestock, including feeding, watering, and stall cleaning.
Support seasonal preparation and transition activities (soil prep, greenhouse care, etc.).
Farm Maintenance
Maintain cleanliness and organization of farm structures (greenhouses, barns, sheds).
Perform daily and preventive maintenance on equipment, tools, and irrigation systems.
Monitor and repair fences, animal enclosures, planting beds, and other structures as needed.
Identify safety hazards and perform repairs or escalate issues to the Farm Manager.
Facility and Grounds Upkeep
Mow, weed, trim, and manage landscape areas surrounding farm facilities.
Maintain walkways, signage, drainage areas, and public-facing farm grounds to support visitor readiness.
Assist in waste disposal, compost management, and recycling systems.
Team Collaboration & Community Interaction
Support special projects, events, and educational activities on the farm.
Collaborate with apprentices, volunteers, and visiting groups to promote learning and engagement.
Maintain a respectful and inclusive working environment for staff and community members.
Technical Skills
Operation and maintenance of farm equipment (tractors, tillers, mowers, weed trimmers, blowers)
Basic mechanical repair (hand tools, power tools, lubrication, tightening, part replacement)
Irrigation system troubleshooting (drip lines, timers, water flow, valve repair)
Basic carpentry (building/repairing fencing, small structures, planting boxes)
Use of landscaping tools (hedge trimmers, chainsaws, pole saws)
Equipment safety and lockout/tagout procedures
Familiarity with greenhouse systems (temperature control, ventilation, pest management)
Ability to read and follow maintenance schedules and safety documentation
(Preferred) Basic knowledge of soil health, compost systems, or farm data tracking apps
Comfortable using a smartphone or tablet to log tasks, maintenance notes, or time entries.
Basic familiarity with email for internal communication and scheduling.
Ability to use apps or web-based systems for tracking inventory, work orders, or training.
Willingness to learn farm management or maintenance tracking software.
(Preferred) Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets for logs or reports.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in farming, landscaping, facilities maintenance, or similar labor-intensive roles preferred.
Ability to operate or learn to operate tractors, weed eaters, lawn equipment, irrigation tools, and small machinery.
Basic understanding of tools and mechanical repairs (or willingness to be trained).
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and performing physical labor (lifting up to 50 lbs).
Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently and in a team environment.
