    Job Description

     

    A Protege Agent generates new business by contacting potential customers. You will sell, solicit, differentiate and negotiate insurance plans that match the needs of your assigned or prospective customers’ portfolio. The goal is to build up strong positive relationships, to ensure growth attainment and increase our firm’s reputation.

    As a Protege Agent, you will work closely with the district office and a mentor agent for 2 years, learning the business and hitting sales goals along the way. You will be tutored by a hand selected mentor agent and learn the ins and outs of being a small business owner. This program allows you to work towards qualifying to own and run your own agency one day or become a partner with your mentor agent.

    The main purpose of the Protege program is to pair you with a seasoned agent who has experienced the growing pains of becoming a Farmers Agent. Side-by-side work with your mentor and becoming self-sufficient in the process will build your confidence and skill level. As adults, we learn best by “doing it,” rather than learning everything in a classroom. There will be classroom training from time to time, but we like to have you “earn while you learn” by teaching you “on the job.”

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop marketing strategies and promote all types of new insurance contracts or suggest additions/changes to existing ones
    • Breed productive relationships to create a pool of prospective clients from various sources by networking, cold calling, using referrals etc
    • Evaluate business or individual customers’ needs and financial status and propose protection plans that meet their criteria
    • Work with clients to deliver risk management strategies that fit their risk profiles
    • Constantly update job knowledge and learn about new products and services
    • Fulfill all policy requirements

    Requirements

    First off, this career is not for everyone. It’s for those who are motivated and goal oriented self-starters who are willing to invest the time, energy, and resources into building their own business. A Farmers Agent is someone who values relationships, puts in hard work, and wants to make a difference in other people’s lives, as well as their own. If you have never thought of owning your own business you may want to take some extra time to understand what it is really all about.

    • Proven ability to work with goals
    • Basic computer knowledge and statistical analysis
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate, present, influence and sell effectively
    • Experience in delivering client-focused solutions and in creating long-lasting relationships
    • Willing and able to become licensed (Property & Casualty and Life, Accident & Health)

    Structure

    Base Salary + commissions

    M-F, 9-5 standard business hours
