    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The FAS Talent Hub is seeking a fellow for a 1 year term (with potential opportunity to extend) to join the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH) within the Office of Environmental Justice (OEJ) at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The Fellow will work closely with OASH’s Senior Advisor for Environmental Justice and Office of Environmental Justice Director to convene a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, provide scientific and policy research expertise, and help negotiate positions on complex issues.

    Current federal employees are not eligible for this position.

    WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

    • Providing scientific and policy research support on domestic and international health impacts related to plastic pollution, lead, mercury, and other environmental justice and climate change related hazards.
    • Working closely with OASH’s Senior Advisor for Environmental Justice and Office of Environmental Justice Director to convene a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, help negotiate federal interagency positions, and propose policy solutions to complex issues.
    • Supporting development and implementation of the HHS Environmental Justice Strategic Plan by establishing direct working relationships with senior leaders, contributing to key objectives and actions, and identifying opportunities for further collaboration.
    • Communicating frequently with internal and external stakeholders, and staff in the White House Executive Office of the President.
    • Participating in HHS, interagency, tribal, and community discussions to raise awareness and promote application of the Environmental Justice Index, a screening tool that measures the cumulative impacts of environmental burden through the lens of human health and health equity.

    • Experience using equity and justice frameworks in addressing interdisciplinary challenges

    EDUCATION & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    Unfortunately, FAS is unable to consider current federal employees for the FAS Impact Fellowship.

    STIPEND

    This fellowship will provide a stipend for the entirety of the fellowship duration at an annual rate of $128,000 per year. The Impact Fellow will receive additional compensation $2,000 per month to account for health and living expenses. Additional information about the Fellowship can be found in our FAQ.
