Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Feed Mill Technician to support daily feed production operations in our Thompson, IA facility. This role is responsible for operating feed mill equipment, managing ingredient inventory, coordinating feed schedules, and ensuring safe and efficient feed delivery.
The ideal candidate has experience in agriculture, grain handling, feed manufacturing, or industrial production, and is committed to workplace safety, quality control, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Operate and monitor feed mill systems, including batching and load routing
Coordinate and execute daily feed production schedules
Accurately input production and receiving data into feed management systems (FMM, BETA Raven)
Ensure proper ingredient receiving, storage, and bin placement
Maintain accurate inventory levels of feed ingredients
Safely deliver finished feed to designated bins for layer and pullet houses
Verify correct feed placement and timing to ensure optimal livestock nutrition
Collect, inspect, and document feed samples for quality assurance
Perform preventative maintenance and report equipment issues with action plans
Conduct pre-trip inspections on feed delivery and transportation equipment
Manage grain receiving area traffic flow and assist with unloading trucks
Complete all required documentation and compliance reporting
Follow all food safety, quality assurance, and workplace safety regulations
Support a positive team culture aligned with company values
Perform additional duties as needed
Required Qualifications
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Basic to intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows-based systems)
Ability to learn industry-specific software such as BETA Raven and Feed Management Systems (FMM)
Knowledge of feed mill operations, grain handling, or agricultural production preferred
Understanding of workplace safety practices, including:
PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
Confined space entry
Fall protection and elevated work platforms
Respiratory protection and hazard communication
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 55 lbs regularly
Capable of bending, stooping, climbing ladders, and working at heights up to 200 ft
Comfortable working in confined spaces
Ability to pass a Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) for respirator use
