    Job Description

    YOUR ROLE:

    Supervise and facilitate the delivery of an exceptional volunteer experience at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC). Coach teammates, delegate tasks and make operational decisions that keep shifts running smoothly. Lead assigned site initiatives and special projects, uphold workplace and food safety policies and procedures. Perform warehousing tasks.

    PAY, SCHEDULE & BENEFITS:

    • This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position.
    • Regularly scheduled for 40 hours per week, subject to site staffing needs. Initially scheduled for a combination of weekday daytime/ evening shifts and a Saturday rotation.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO:

    • Supervise the execution of food packing operations during scheduled shifts. Coach and delegate tasks, and ensure that operations run according to FMSC policies and procedures from setup to cleanup.
    • Model excellent work performance and encourage excellence from staff. Provide direct and respectful on the spot coaching, reinforce and recognize successes and communicate updates to the appropriate supervisor.
    • Facilitate an exceptional volunteer experience. Warmly greet volunteers, create a great first impression, answer questions, build rapport, authentically thank them and express how important their contribution is to FMSC.
    • Inspire volunteers to become invested in feeding kids. Educate and encourage volunteers through public speaking and one-on-one interactions. Invite donations and product purchases. Instruct on how to pack food.
    • Orchestrate packing sessions. Monitor the time, manage transitions between activities, make announcements, flex with changing production needs, organize the flow of supplies, track production, etc.
    • Create a hospitable, flexible environment. Anticipate volunteer needs, think ahead, troubleshoot problems and respond calmly to the unpredictability of a volunteer workforce.
    • Lead site-level initiatives and a small committee in an assigned focus area. Focus areas include:
      • Compliance: lead safety and compliance initiatives, oversee safety committee, and participate in audits.
      • MarketPlace: manage retail inventory, promote new products and stories, and train peers on POS use.
      • Volunteer Recruitment & Experience: lead recruitment/retention, hospitality, communication, and appreciation.
      • Volunteer Fundraising: lead site-level fundraising initiatives, do community outreach, and lead special events.
    • Lead an improvised Christian prayer over packaged food after each session, and invite volunteers to join in.
    • Label inventory, palletize boxes, prepare pallets for shipment and use a pallet jack.
    • Maintain site appearance and safety: keep the bathrooms, orientation and packing areas clean and organized.
    • Understand and follow workplace and food safety policies and procedures. Ensure volunteer compliance.
    • Operate a cash register and perform merchandise transactions.
    • Act as a backup for the Warehouse Specialist; move product using a powered forklift (training provided).
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    YOUR QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Passionate about FMSC’s Christian mission and living it out in the workplace.
    • Minimum of high school diploma or GED and demonstrated leadership experience required.
    • Able to coach and direct the work of others.
    • Able to maintain energy and stamina during 8-hour shifts with nearly continual standing and walking.
    • Able to push, pull, lift 30-50 lbs. repeatedly, bend, twist and use hand tools like scissors.
    • Enthusiastic and positive when working with groups and individuals. Able to educate, persuade and instruct.
    • Thrives in a team setting. Can pitch in, fill in gaps, remain flexible, ask for help and share responsibilities.
    • Assertive and confident with verbally sharing information.
    • Excellent hospitality focus: recognize and meet volunteer needs. Can build rapport and maintain relationships.
    • Able to identify and solve problems. Responsible and able to use good judgment and discretion.
    • Respect volunteers of all ages, religious beliefs, ethnicities and types (ex. special needs, court-ordered).
    • Able to tolerate consistent exposure to soy (an allergen).
