    Job Description

    JOB SUMMARY 

    Under the supervision of the Programs Director, the Programs Manager of Feeding San Diego (FSD) is responsible for overseeing direct to community food distributions, meal service programs and CalFresh (nationally, SNAP).  The position will work with more than 100 local, state, and national partners—including schools, school districts, county offices, state agencies, and community-based organizations.  Duties include working closely with all other departments at Feeding San Diego to ensure efficient and appropriate processes are in place to meet program needs; building and maintaining regular relationships with local, state, and national partners; managing personnel and providing guidance to all direct programs; ensuring compliance with all state and national mandates with regard to federal programming; facilitating and supporting grant applications and reporting; working with the programs team to ensure all goals for direct programs are met; and attending all relevant meetings, workshops, and trainings necessary to successfully complete the position’s responsibilities.

    PROGRAM MANAGEMENT:

    • Manage the planning, budgeting, coordination, and compliance for all school based food distributions, senior, military, rural and healthcare focused food distributions, and federal nutrition programs
    • Lead a team of CalFresh case managers and ensure timely submission of applications
    • Ensure all Feeding San Diego federally-funded programs are in compliance with all state and federal agency regulations
    • Drive strategic planning, goal development, and assessment and evaluation of all direct programs
    • Directly supervise four full-time staff who are responsible for coordinating the above mentioned programs
    • Develop and maintain relationships with the county of San Diego Health and Human Services division for high-quality service delivery to CalFresh clients
    • Facilitate coordination with all other departments involved in ensuring successful service delivery of all direct programs
    • Support infusion of CalFresh in all program department activity
    • Assist with management of large-scale events

     

    COMMUNICATION:

    • Support the Development Department in periodic needs encompassing grant management and reporting, marketing and communications, advocacy, and donor relations
    • Support grant reporting with testimonials, data, and information as needed
    • Facilitate annual trainings for all direct program partner contacts
    • Maintain strong connections with local and state agencies through regular communication
    • Oversee survey administration and support program evaluation by effectively communicating outcomes from program deliverables

     

    INTERN MANAGEMENT:

    • Help provide strategic direction for the CalFresh Case Management Internship Program by assessing and improving current practices and facilitating the creation of new practices

     

    MISCELLANEOUS:

    • Represent FSD to community groups and the general public through active participation at meetings, involvement in events throughout the community, and through official media outlets
    • Attend and participate in all appropriate meetings as scheduled
    • Evening or weekend work as required
    • All other duties as assigned

     

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This position regularly supervises four full-time staff, and at times supervises an additional 2-3 temporary staff. The position will also work closely with volunteers and interns in the office and at sites, in an administrative support capacity and for community outreach.

    EDUCATION/YEARS EXPERIENCE

    Required:

    • B.A. degree from an accredited university or college in Social Service, Business Administration, Management, or comparable course of study preferred and two (2) or more years of experience in a position requiring similar skill sets or working in a similar or related capacity for a nonprofit organization.

    Preferred:

    • Bilingual in Spanish.
    • 2-4 years of experience in a nonprofit program coordination setting with competing priorities, deadlines, and constant multi-tasking.
    • Experience in food distribution programs, food security and hunger-relief work, and volunteer coordination is highly desirable

    Any combination of educational and work experience that would be equivalent to the stated minimum requirements would qualify for consideration of this position.

    • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, organizational, and public speaking skills.
    • Proven track record of success.
