    Job Description

    The Direct Service Coordinator – Youth Meals oversees and supports the operation of food distribution programs, with a focus on the Feeding Kids Initiative. Feeding Kids programs include School Pantry, Backpack, and Summer Meals programs. This role will also be asked to support other Direct Service programs, such as Produce Pantries, Mobile Pantries, and Feeding San Diego’s onsite Marketplace. This is accomplished by maintaining positive relationships with volunteer site leads, overseeing the operation of food distributions, monitoring food safety, and maintaining complete and accurate records. Imperative to this role is a positive attitude, creativity, the ability to forge new relationships, critical thinking, and the ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals throughout the organization and the community in a positive and professional manner. The Direct Service Coordinator may be required to complete other tasks as assigned by the Direct Services Manager in support of FSD’s mission. The position is primarily office-based and will be required to occasionally visit sites in the community. There is an option to transition to a hybrid work model after the 90-day review.

    • High School Diploma/GED
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines effectively.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders and build strong partnerships.
    • Moderate level computer skills: email, internet search engines, word processing, spreadsheet software, and ability to learn new technologies/software platforms

    Preferred

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Experience working or volunteering at nonprofits or schools
    • Experience working with customers, volunteers, and/or organizing events
    • Experience using an ERP system
    • Experience working with the USDA Summer Food Service Program (SFSP)
    • Food Safety training
    • Bilingual in Spanish

    • Oversee the efficient and equitable distribution of food and resources to Youth Meals partner sites and community members including logistics, volunteer and client safety, and food safety according to standard operating procedures.
    • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with community members, organizational representatives, and site leads to foster collaboration and strong lines of communication.
    • Ensure adherence to food safety protocols and regulatory guidelines during the handling and distribution of food product.
    • Maintain complete and accurate records of program activities.
    • Support the evaluation of programs by conducting regular site visits and facilitating the administration of surveys.
    • Regularly work in an Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP), Ceres, to place orders and maintain site information.
    • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers for various program activities, ensuring a positive volunteer experience.
    • Provide professional and responsive customer service to all internal and external partners.

    PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

    • Perform work in an office adjacent to (occasionally in) an active warehouse setting, which has a noise level that can be considered moderate and may occasionally create an exposure to dust and pollens.
    • Travel to locations throughout San Diego County using an automobile.
    • Perform work outside at food distributions which requires standing and walking for long periods of time.
    • Lift up to 50 pounds.

    PAY RANGE

    The pay range for this position is $18 to $22 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
