    GENERAL SUMMARY:

    The Volunteers in Mission (VIM) Coordinator is responsible for creating, leading, directing, and ongoing management of the Felician Volunteers in Mission (VIM) program for college and post-collegiate adults. The VIM Coordinator is also charged with implementing enhancements to the program.     Volunteers will minister while living a simple lifestyle in a small prayerful community with other volunteers. Community living offers an opportunity for mutual support, affirmation, challenge, and the experience of realizing the benefits of working as a family while growing in faith. The residence is located near Deo Gratias ministry in Detroit, to provide an opportunity to live with and among those who are marginalized by society.

    The Felician Sisters VIM program is a service experience that supports service in the spirit of Blessed Angela and St. Francis, working with the Felician Sisters to help the most vulnerable. The Felician Sisters of North America recognizes that all roles in the organization require cultivating teamwork and maintaining partnerships among all departments.     ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Volunteers in Mission (VIM) Program Development Responsibilities:
    • Enhances and maintains the VIM program.
    • Ensures that the program operates and grows in accordance with the mission statement.
    • Acts as the principal spokesperson for the program.
    • Arranges for the production and distribution of program materials in collaboration with the office of Mission Advancement.
    • Supports alumnae and community relations.
    • Communicates and collaborates with the Provincial Council liaison.
    • Communicates and collaborates with the Director of the Deo Gratias Detroit Ministry.
    • Accompanies volunteers to sites.
    • Conducts integration sessions and follow up accordingly.
    • Oversees, coordinates and be present for or present training sessions.
    • Communicates and works in partnership with multiple provincial offices.
    1. Recruitment Responsibilities:
    • Develops an annual operating plan for the program each year.
    • Coordinates recruitment and retention efforts.
    • Conducts interviews, maintains contacts, creates, and utilizes databases, develops, and distributes information. Responsible for processing applications and placing individuals.
    • Communicates and works in partnership with the staff in the Office of Mission Advancement to enhance public communications and fundraising.
    1. Management Responsibilities:
    • Prepares groups for volunteer experiences. This includes educating volunteers about the health and safety preparation required, ensuring all paperwork and health components are in order, educating volunteers regarding the work to be performed, informing volunteers about the cultural environment, and preparing volunteers for the living conditions of the area.
    • Implements and plans for orientation, placement, evaluation, and debriefing; organize planning committees as needed.
    • Organizes and interacts with community sites.
    • Establishes and cultivates local support for volunteers.
    • Organizes diversity-related programs including retreats and recruitment.
    • Visits colleges and universities to educate on the program.
    • Explores industry resources such as the Catholic Volunteer Network (CNV), AmeriCorps, etc.
    • Oversees orientations, evaluations, conferences and regional initiatives and formation programs.
    • Coordinates relationships with new organizations.
    • Manages financial resources associated with the program and oversee the budget process.
    1. Domestic Travel Expectations:
    • This position will require domestic travel. The purposes for travel may include:
      • Retreats
      • Development events
      • Site and community visits
      • Staff retreats
      • Conferences
      • Recruitment
    1. Maintains participant files and confidentiality for all personal and health information for program participants.

    2. Attends and participate in meetings, committees, seminars, conferences, and in-service training programs as directed.

    3. Is available during nights and weekends to contact in emergency situations.

    6. Performs other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor's degree in Theology, Youth Studies, Youth Ministry, Pastoral Ministry, Religious Studies, or related areas preferred.
    • Current “Safe Environment” certification as required by the Roman Catholic Church (Examples: Protecting God's Children, Darkness to Light, or the equivalent).
    • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in supervising, leading, and organizing volunteer programs and organizations is required.
    • Minimum of three (3) years' experience supervising adults in a faith-based or non-profit setting is required.
    • Experience in working with diverse cultures and marginalized populations preferred.
