    POSITION DESCRIPTION:  ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

    REPORTS TO:  ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING MANAGER

    DIRECT REPORTS:  AS ASSIGNED BY ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING MANAGER

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Provide electrical power distribution and system design supporting all Feyen Zylstra service offerings across all branch office locations.  In addition to design, provide conceptual budgeting information and cost analysis assistance with existing projects as needed. This position will require strong interpersonal and technical skills.

    THIS INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

    • Be a problem solver, provide solutions and support FZ throughout project life-cycle.
    • Take ownership of your work and firmly adhere to the Engineers Code of Ethics.
    • Become an expert in the Electrical Construction field and a market expert resource for FZ customer(s), both internal and external.
    • Perform direct communication/coordination with customers.
    • Complete electrical design on multi-discipline construction projects including but not limited to the following:
      • Feasibility/Budgeting studies.
      • Conceptual, Design Assist and Design Build projects.
      • Master Planning.
      • Complete load, lighting and other required calculations and studies on assigned projects.
      • Design Development (Concept-Preliminary-30-60-90-Permit).
      • Value Engineering (Cost Control).
      • Collaborate with engineering in the complete development of drawings and specifications related to the electrical design throughout design life-cycle.
      • Site inspection and quality control of design documents.
    • Support the Estimating Group for the following:
      • Scope analysis, value engineering and conceptual design(s) for bidding purposes.
      • Assist with communication to (OAEGS) as needed to define project scope, address deficiencies and major risk factors and confirm that the proposal provided will meet their needs.
      • Assist and/or prepare preconstruction proposals.
      • Prepare and transmit requests for product specifications to distributors, vendors, product representatives and manufacturers.
      • Prepare conceptual design/pricing drawings as needed.
      • Prepare and transmit RFI’s to responsible parties.
      • Prepare clarification and/or design assumptions required for proposal.
      • Assist in preparation and review of proposal letters.
      • Analyze bid documents for alternate means and methods.
      • Review proposals and identify risk issues and determine their magnitude.
      • Review and compare vendor product quotations.
    • Support Operational Groups throughout the construction phases of a project:
      • Participate in the transfer of information during Job Kick-off Meetings.
      • Support preplanning department as needed.
      • Support prefabrication department as needed.
      • Ensure all project design documents are submitted and approved as required for permitting.
      • Attend project design coordination meetings as required.
      • Provide written documentation of meeting minutes including, but not limited to, open design completion, trade coordination items and required follow-up/completion dates until the project has been assigned and turned over to a Project Manager.
      • Participate in periodic reviews and visits to projects to assess quality and design compliance.
      • Provide written reports to project manager of any design items that need to be addressed.
      • Provide detailed documentation of all scope and design related changes.
    • Maintain database of design documents and historical data for assigned projects.
    • Supervise/Mentor assigned design/engineering personnel.
    • Keep current on latest materials, equipment, code and energy requirements.
    • Ensure all design/project information is documented, organized and accessible.
    • Review designs for constructability issues.
    • Maintain positive relationships with vendors and suppliers.
    • Become a resource and consultant for long range and strategic planning as it relates to BIM, Revit, and other design and engineering software systems, as requested.

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • Low voltage power distribution design for industrial and commercial markets including coordination of design with Utility Companies.

    • Emergency power generation.

    • Fire alarm system design.

    • Industrial and commercial lighting design and modeling.

    • Coordination of design to include all required technology, communication, building management and security and audio-visual systems:

    • Drawing development using AutoCAD/Revit design software.

    • Ability to manage multiple projects.

    • Knowledge of building material and equipment cost.

    • Knowledge of building construction methods, materials, systems, market conditions, and trade practices.

    • Ability to prepare conceptual designs based on minimal information and specifications.

    • Ability to work well with others to gather information.

    • Ability to professionally communicate project needs to assigned staff in a highly stressed environment.

    • Proven ability to multi-task in a high volume, fast-paced work environment.

    • Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer relations skills.

    • Open to change based on diverse input and feedback.

    • Strong mathematical skills.

    • Proficiency with MS Office products (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project).

    • Proficiency with AutoCAD/Revit design software.

    • Ability and commitment to meet deadlines.

    • Five or more years of relevant design and/or electrical engineering experience.

    • Bachelor of Science from an Accredited Electrical Engineering Program.

    ADDITIONAL DESIRED SKILLS:

    • BIM modeling and coordination.
    • Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu.
