    Spirit Maine's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.

    Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.


    Your role: Spirit Maine is seeking an energetic and experienced Facilities Engineer to join their Facilities Team. As the Facilities Engineer, you will be responsible for oversight and coordination of building space allocation and layout and facility expansion; optimization and management of factory layout and equipment; assessing project and resources requirements; estimating and negotiating budgets and schedules with clients and engineers; and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal agency requirements associated with construction and facility management.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Drive new products and equipment through the development process
    • Gather and create product requirements and milestones
    • Drive projects meet deadlines and complete within budget
    • Provide basic technical leadership and lead by example
    • Create and manage the plan for moving technical solutions to final manufacturing hand-off
    • Assemble and coordinate the internal and external teams to gain consensus on deliverables
    • Collaboratively adapt existing and develop new project plans, processes and communication standards for the operations teams
    • Manage the resources, ongoing schedule and financial tracking of each project
    • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential risks, and prepare contingency plans
    • Develop and deliver progress reports, required documentation, and presentations.
    • Works with internal and external stakeholders
    • Identify technical risks to the organization as they relate to business requirements
    • Anticipate bottlenecks and mitigate impact in the development cycle & project
    • Implement transformational process improvements using Lean and Six Sigma tools

    ** What we need from you:**

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline; greenfield startup experience may be substituted
    • 8+ years of engineering experience in manufacturing or development environments
    • Demonstrated experience in team building, continuous improvement, and cycle time reduction
    • Experience with project management
    • Knowledge of procurement
    • Vendor/contractor management experience
    • Experience with supply chain management and supply chain quality
    • Experience leading/managing production teams (Matrix structure)
    • Working with customers to develop deliverables
    • Experience with schedule management and tracking
    • Experience with budget tracking and management
    • Internal and external Reporting to include customer documents, data packages, CoC

    _ Preferred:_

    • Experience with industrial tools and equipment preferred
    • Experience in aerospace/high-temperature composites, textiles or industrial engineering systems would distinguish the candidate
    • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing and theory of constraints desired
