About Us: JRP Utility Construction is an expert turn-key utility construction company that offers walkout and design, permitting, both aerial and underground construction, fiber and copper splicing and all required testing and closeout packages. We are seeking an experienced Fiber Splicer to support ongoing and upcoming projects and join our growing team. A fiber optic splicer installs, maintains, and repairs fiber optic cables and systems, ensuring high-speed connectivity for data, voice, and video transmission, and troubleshooting issues to maintain optimal performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Splicing various types of Fiber optic cable with connectors or pig tails.
Install fiber optic enclosures and hardware.
Accurately utilize testing equipment and meters such as OTDR.
Interpret and work from construction maps, utility prints, engineer drawings and electronic diagrams.
Communicate effectively with contractors, project managers, and property owners as needed in English but bilingual is a plus.
Maintain accurate records and test results.
Maintain accurate records of work performed, material used and daily activities.
Maintain splice equipment.
Complete certification testing of fiber optic systems.
Understand and adhere to safety standards as outlined by OSHA, NESC, NEC.
Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment as needed.
Identify and report hazardous conditions or damage to utility infrastructure.
Work collaboratively with utility team to ensure timely project completion.
Perform various other general labor tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
5+ years proven experience installing, maintaining and repairing fiber optic cables and systems.
Knowledge of and experience with testing equipment.
Experience with fusion and manual splicing.
Able to follow written and verbal instruction.
Ability to accurately read and interpret construction maps and utility plans.
Ability to communicate effectively in English; bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to job site safety.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Current and valid auto insurance.
Must pass a pre-employment drug test and criminal background check.
Reliable transportation and ability to work independently in the field.
Preferred Qualifications:
CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) preferred, but not required.
OSHA safety certifications or other relevant training a plus.
Additional Requirements:
Overnight travel is required for some projects. Travel assignments may span from a few days to several consecutive weeks. Lodging will be provided as applicable.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Ability to walk, stand, bend, and lift for extended periods.
Must be capable of performing physically demanding tasks (such as carrying and moving heavy tools and equipment) safely and efficiently.
Comfortable working in difficult positions such as within ducts, above ceilings etc.
