    Job Description

    JOB SUMMARY

    The Transportation Coordinator is the primary point of contact for daily transportation activities and/or issues.  He/She receives, processes, and executes numerous requests for transportation support from internal and external customers during the course of the work day.  The Transportation Coordinator also serves as the first point of contact for the Meridian location.  

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:

    • OUTBOUND TRUCKLOAD SHIPMENTS (FLATBED AND VAN):  Ensure that freight carriers receive shipment requests via Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).  Update Fiberon’s systems (CMS and Realtime) with carrier booking information (pick up date/ freight expense/ shipment notes).  Monitor and update the daily shipping schedule.  Coordinate with the shipping team, customer service, and carriers.   
    • RAIL CAR SHIPMENTS:  Work with the planning, customer service, and shipping teams to develop the outbound rail shipping schedule.  Place orders for empty rail cars in a timely and accurate manner via the rail carrier’s website.  Create shipment way bills for all loaded rail cars to ensure that these loads are picked up as soon as possible.  
    • EXPORT SHIPMENTS (CONTAINERS):  Work with freight forwarders to book export containers for shipment as instructed by Fiberon’s wholesale export customer service team.  Work with the shipping team and dray carriers to establish daily loading schedules.  Complete required export documentation.
    • LESS THAN TRUCKLOAD SHIPPING (LTL):  Update CMS with LTL carrier rates and any needed bill of lading header changes for the current day’s shipments.  Work with the shipping team to develop the LTL shipping schedule for the next business day.  Update CMS with shipping information for the next day’s shipments and EDI these orders to the third party logistics provider.   
    • RECEIVING SCHEDULE: Receive delivery requests from carriers.  Verify purchase order information.  Schedule shipments for delivery.  Maintain the shipping schedule.  Coordinate with the receiving team.
    • MANUAL TRANSPORTATION REQUESTS:  Receive, process, and track all internal manual transportation requests.  Coordinate these shipments with the assigned carrier, the delivery destination, and the Fiberon department that sent the request (e.g. Research and Development).
    • CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT AND COST SAVINGS:  Work with the Transportation Manager to identify and realize supply chain process improvements and/ or freight expense cost savings opportunities.
    • ADMINISTRATIVE: Serve as first point on contact via walk-in/telephone.  Perform backup duties for office personnel as needed.  Complete all filing on daily basis.  Complete daily production reporting.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/WORK SCHEDULE

    • Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience (two years) in transportation, shipping, or inventory management.
    • Stable work history.
    • Day Shift (Monday to Friday).  Some overtime and/ or weekend work may be required.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • Must be able to maintain the integrity of established processes while working under pressure.
    • Great planning and organizational skills.
    • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Able to multi-task.
    • Must be able to type, minimum 65WPM with the ability to dictate.
    • Problem solving ability using basic math.
    • Computer literacy, specifically MS Word and MS Excel.
