Position Overview
We are seeking a Field Inspector II – Plumbing to perform comprehensive field inspections and quality verification of plumbing and drainage systems. This role requires hands-on experience with building plumbing installations, the ability to interpret codes and specifications, and confidence in coordinating with QA/QC, commissioning, and construction teams.
The position functionally reports to the QC Engineer and administratively to the Trade Team Lead , ensuring full alignment between project execution and quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent inspections of domestic water, drainage, vent, storm, and sanitary systems , verifying compliance with drawings, specifications, and codes.
- Review IFC drawings, shop drawings, and material submittals ; identify discrepancies and coordinate corrective actions.
- Enforce adherence to IPC (International Plumbing Code), UPC, ASME A112, NSF, and local plumbing regulations.
- Witness and verify pressure, leak, and functional performance tests , including pump testing, flushing, and chlorination/disinfection activities.
- Inspect installation of valves, backflow preventers, pumps, water heaters, interceptors, and fixtures for quality, labeling, and orientation.
- Monitor slope, pipe supports, insulation, and identification tagging for conformity with project and code requirements.
- Prepare and maintain detailed inspection reports, NCRs, CARs, ITP records, and daily logs , ensuring proper traceability.
- Verify as-built documentation and readiness of systems for turnover to commissioning teams.
- Mentor Field Inspector I staff and support QA/QC Engineer during audits or client inspections.
- Coordinate with Safety to ensure that all inspection and testing activities follow OSHA and site safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Plumbing Engineering , or equivalent technical diploma.
- 3–7 years of plumbing inspection or QA/QC experience within building or infrastructure projects.
- In-depth knowledge of plumbing systems, components, and materials , including piping, valves, and fixtures.
- Proven understanding of IPC, UPC, ASME, and NSF codes and standards.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Strong documentation, coordination, and communication skills; capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Physically fit for fieldwork in mechanical rooms, roof spaces, and confined areas.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety qualification.
- Experience in hydrostatic, air, and vacuum testing , and disinfection/flushing procedures.
- Exposure to specialized systems such as medical gas, RO/softened water, graywater, and sump/pump assemblies.
- Ability to review and close NCRs , validate ITPs , and support commissioning documentation.
