POSITION SUMMARY
The Field Service Mechanic Foreman oversees mobile diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance for fleet trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment in the field. This role manages field mechanics, coordinates parts and vendor support, ensures OSHA and DOT compliance, and provides advanced technical guidance during on-site repairs. The position requires leadership skills, expert mechanical knowledge, and the ability to prioritize repairs while maintaining safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
YOUR ROLE
- Supervise and perform mobile repairs on diesel and gas-powered fleet vehicles, including heavy-line repairs such as injectors, transmissions, and emissions systems.
- Manage the mobile preventive maintenance (PM) program, ensuring service intervals are completed on schedule.
- Diagnose electrical, hydraulic, brake, and CAN bus communication issues using OEM software, scan tools, and Equipment360.
- Oversee on-site welding, fabrication, and trailer repair projects.
- Coordinate parts sourcing, delivery, and vendor-led training opportunities.
- Develop and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) for mobile PMs, safety compliance, and oil sampling.
- Lead field safety inspections and enforce Lockout/Tagout, battery safety, hot work, and PPE requirements.
- Approve use of service trucks, mobile tools, and diagnostic equipment for field assignments.
- Prioritize mobile work orders based on urgency, location, and resource availability.
- Provide technical support, guidance, and coaching to field mechanics during repairs and PMs.
- Maintain accurate repair documentation, inventory records, and Equipment360 logs.
- Collaborate with Operations, Project Managers, and shop leadership to align repair schedules with project needs.
- Inspect and approve final repairs before equipment is returned to service.
- Monitor service truck condition, tool compliance, and mobile inventory.
- Lead weekly mobile safety talks and address jobsite hazard observations.
WHAT YOU BRING
- 5+ years of experience in heavy equipment and fleet maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Expert knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy-line repair procedures.
- Proficiency with OEM diagnostic tools, scan software, and repair tracking systems.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to train, coach, and evaluate field mechanics.
- Familiarity with OSHA, DOT, and EPA compliance requirements for mobile repairs.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills for coordinating multiple job sites.
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve under time-sensitive conditions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed outdoors and in various field environments year-round, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and other harsh conditions. Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, and work in confined or awkward positions for extended periods. Regularly lifts and carries up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs. with assistance while handling parts, tools, and equipment. Must tolerate noise, vibration, and exposure to fuels, lubricants, and other hazardous materials.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
May require travel within Texas. Overnight or out-of-town stays may be needed based on project location.
