We are seeking an experienced Field Service Technician with strong electrical, mechanical, and PLC skills to diagnose, maintain, and repair a variety of secondary packaging equipment. This role requires hands-on technical expertise, excellent customer service abilities, and the capability to lead installation crews and train junior technicians. This position requires approximately 70% travel to customer sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, identify, and troubleshoot issues on industrial packaging equipment.
- Perform equipment installation, maintenance, repairs, and lead installation crews as needed.
- Read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, electrical schematics, and mechanical drawings.
- Communicate effectively with customers to provide clear updates and build trust.
- Provide professional on-site and phone support, maintaining strong customer relationships.
- Identify and communicate sales opportunities (maintenance plans, retrofits, spare parts, replacement equipment).
- Submit service reports, quotes, parts documentation, inventory updates, and expense reports in a timely manner.
- Properly document, label, and return defective parts after repairs.
- Follow all safety policies, practices, and procedures at all times.
- Collaborate with local and national teams to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Supervise and train junior maintenance staff.
- Perform film audits, identify film-related issues, and provide solutions.
- Prepare for service calls by reviewing relevant documentation and schematics.
- Maintain personal tools, test equipment, and vehicle stock in proper working order.
- Travel regularly to customer locations, including overnight stays (approximately 70% travel).
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Associate degree or higher in Mechanical or Electrical Technology or 5+ years of recent experience working with secondary packaging equipment.
- PLC experience—ability to write simple logic, interface with equipment, and make program changes.
- Experience with case erectors, stretch wrappers, shrink equipment, and other packaging systems.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs; frequent kneeling, standing, bending required.
- Strong independent work skills with the ability to lead teams when needed.
- Successful completion of factory certification courses as required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for service reporting.
- Strong time-management and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and Salesforce CRM.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, clean driving record, vehicle registration, and insurance.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
- Ability to use a smartphone and required work-related applications.
- Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screening.
