    You'll be joining Wabtec Bus Solutions, a team driving innovation in Transit Bus & Rail systems, including passenger door systems, wheelchair lifts & ramps, e-Bus charging systems, driver’s protective barriers, and more. We blend technical expertise with deep product knowledge to deliver high-impact solutions for our customers and communities.

    How will you make a difference?

    As a Field Service Technician, you will provide field service support to public transit authority customers within the greater New York City Metropolitan area, with primary focus on New York City Transit (NYCT) facilities. This entails performing warranty repairs, diagnostics, and field campaign activities on bus door systems, wheelchair lifts, and other products supplied by Wabtec Bus Solutions. This role is customer-facing and field-based, with a strong emphasis on maintaining product reliability, supporting transit operations, and ensuring contractual warranty and campaign obligations are met. While the primary focus is NYCT, the position may also support surrounding transit agencies as required.

    What do we want to know about you?

    You may be a good fit if you have:

    • Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent hands-on experience in electrical, mechanical, or electro-mechanical systems.

    • Minimum of 3 years of field service, fleet maintenance, or transit-related technical experience preferred.

    • Experience working with bus systems, doors, wheelchair lifts, or similar transit equipment is strongly preferred.

    • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel daily within the NYC metropolitan area

    • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.

    • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, service manuals, and technical bulletins.

    • Familiarity with transit maintenance environments and depot operations.

    • Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision.

    • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with transit maintenance staff, supervisors, and management.

    • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.

    • Comfortable working in active maintenance facilities and around revenue service vehicles.

    • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while meeting service and campaign deadlines.

    What will your typical day look like?

    • Perform warranty service, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on bus door systems, wheelchair lifts, and other supplied components across NYCT depots.
    • Complete field modifications, inspections, retrofits, and documentation in alignment with engineering instructions and program requirements.
    • Act as the technical liaison with NYCT maintenance teams while providing guidance and informal training on product operation and diagnostics.
    • Accurately document all service activities and close work orders using required reporting tools, including the NYCT Spear System.
    • Support PDI inspections, in‑service fleet needs, and daily travel to multiple depots while maintaining professional conduct and adhering to all safety procedures.

    What about the physical demands of the job?

    • The employee must frequently stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The employee will regularly use hand tools and diagnostic equipment
    • The employee will primarily work in active bus depots and outdoor environments. Exposure to varying weather conditions, loud noise, moving vehicles, fumes, airborne particles, oils, greases, and cleaning chemicals is expected. Proper PPE must be worn as required. Noise levels may range from moderate to high depending on location.

    • Must be able to read and write in English
    • Ability to bend and lift television sets.
    • Some technical skills which may include: previous experience with consumer electronics, software systems, and networking knowledge.
    • Superior customer service skills.
    • Organizational and time management skills.
    • Identify problems and troubleshoot data/equipment.
    • Minimum High School Diploma/GED OR 2+ years equivalent work experience.
    • Must have a valid Driver’s License.

    The associate must be willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to be outside, in all weather conditions, year-round going door-to-door into people’s homes.

    • Be able to navigate stairs, elevators, walkways and driveways (paved and unpaved) and a wide variety of entrances into people’s homes.
    • Willing and able to interact with people for several hours in their home - regardless of the location or condition of their home, this includes, but is not limited to homes that may contain pets, dust, plants, odors or other irritants of any kind, as well as be in various states of cleanliness or disarray.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Travel Locally for up to 50% of the time
    • Driving for up to 8 hours per day
    • Standing for up to 6 hours per day
    • Kneeling for up to 2 hours per day
    • Ability to climb stairs
    • Ability to walk half of a mile
    • Ability to work in all seasons and inclement weather
    • Ability to lift up to 30lbs
