Finance & Accounting Analyst – An Exciting Career Opportunity!
Aspen Careers is partnering with a well-established legal firm to find a detail-oriented and highly organized Finance & Accounting Specialist to join their collaborative finance team in Columbus, Ohio.
As the Finance & Accounting Analyst, you will play a crucial role in managing the financial operations of the firm, ensuring accuracy and compliance. You will be responsible for a variety of accounting tasks specific to a law practice, providing essential support to the firm's attorneys and legal staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and reconcile client invoices for legal services and disbursements.
- Process vendor invoices and manage timely accounts payable.
- Track client payments, outstanding balances, and generate aging reports.
- Enter attorney time and expenses into billing software (e.g., Timeslips).
- Reconcile bank accounts and credit card statements monthly.
- Monitor trust account transactions and handle retainer payments.
- Maintain accurate financial records in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Communicate with attorneys, paralegals, and clients regarding billing inquiries.
- Assist with tax preparation tasks (e.g., CAT reports, 1099 forms, vendor setup).
- Support additional administrative and financial operations as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Three + years in a bookkeeping or accounting role.
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks and Microsoft Office (especially Excel). Experience with Timeslips or a legal billing software is a plus.
- Experience handling trust accounts, retainers, and client-specific billing guidelines.
- Familiarity with legal terminology and confidentiality standards.
- High attention to detail and excellent time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of state-specific tax and billing compliance (e.g., CAT reporting).
- Experience working with 1099 processing and vendor onboarding.
- Comfortable working with both digital and paper documentation workflows.
The Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Must have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. MBA Preferred
- Proven experience (2-5 years) in an accounting support role.
- Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (including formulas, data manipulation, etc.).
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks).
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- A proactive and problem-solving attitude.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
