    Aspen Careers is partnering with a well-established legal firm to find a detail-oriented and highly organized Finance & Accounting Specialist to join their collaborative finance team in Columbus, Ohio.

    As the Finance & Accounting Analyst, you will play a crucial role in managing the financial operations of the firm, ensuring accuracy and compliance. You will be responsible for a variety of accounting tasks specific to a law practice, providing essential support to the firm's attorneys and legal staff.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Prepare, review, and reconcile client invoices for legal services and disbursements.
    • Process vendor invoices and manage timely accounts payable.
    • Track client payments, outstanding balances, and generate aging reports.
    • Enter attorney time and expenses into billing software (e.g., Timeslips).
    • Reconcile bank accounts and credit card statements monthly.
    • Monitor trust account transactions and handle retainer payments.
    • Maintain accurate financial records in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
    • Communicate with attorneys, paralegals, and clients regarding billing inquiries.
    • Assist with tax preparation tasks (e.g., CAT reports, 1099 forms, vendor setup).
    • Support additional administrative and financial operations as needed.

    Required Qualifications

    • Three + years in a bookkeeping or accounting role. 
    • Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks and Microsoft Office (especially Excel). Experience with Timeslips or a legal billing software is a plus. 
    • Experience handling trust accounts, retainers, and client-specific billing guidelines.
    • Familiarity with legal terminology and confidentiality standards.
    • High attention to detail and excellent time management skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Knowledge of state-specific tax and billing compliance (e.g., CAT reporting).
    • Experience working with 1099 processing and vendor onboarding.
    • Comfortable working with both digital and paper documentation workflows.

    The Ideal Candidate Profile:

    • Must have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. MBA Preferred
    • Proven experience (2-5 years) in an accounting support role.
    • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and practices.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (including formulas, data manipulation, etc.).
    • Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks).
    • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
    • Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
    • A proactive and problem-solving attitude.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
