    Remote position – or Hybrid position located in Lexington, SC

    Position Summary

    The Finance/Accounting Specialist supports the financial integrity and operational excellence of a large, multi-ministry church by managing day-to-day accounting functions, maintaining accurate financial records, and producing timely financial reporting. This role is responsible for general ledger oversight, reconciliations, and audit-ready financials while supporting the Accountant / HR Director in budgeting, analysis, and process improvement.

    The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, ministry-focused environment with multiple campuses and departments.

    Key Responsibilities

    General Ledger & Month-End Close

    Lead monthly and year-end close processes.

    Prepare and post journal entries.

    Perform and review balance sheet reconciliations monthly.

    Financial Reporting

    Produce departmental and campus-level budget vs. actual reports.

    Assist with financial analysis and variance explanations.

    Support development of dashboards and reporting for leadership.

    Ensure reporting is timely, accurate, and decision-useful.

    Audit, Compliance & 990 Support

    Maintain organized documentation and support for annual audit or review.

    Assist with Form 990T and other external financial reporting requirements.

    Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial policies.

    Accounts Payable, Payroll & Cash Support

    Provide oversight/support for accounts payable and expense coding.

    Review payroll entries and related reconciliations.

    Reconcile bank and credit card accounts.

    Ensure proper documentation and approval processes are followed.

    Budget Support

    Assist Accounting / HR Director with annual budget development.

    Maintain budget templates and upload into accounting system.

    Support ministry leaders with budget questions and reporting.

    Systems & Process Improvement

    Help optimize use of accounting and financial systems.

    Improve processes for efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.

    Assist with integrations between accounting, payroll, AP, expense, and giving systems.

    Support documentation of accounting procedures.

    Qualifications

    Education & Experience

    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.

    2+ years of progressive accounting experience.

    Experience in nonprofit or church accounting strongly preferred.

    Technical Skills

    Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis).

    Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks On-line).

    Experience with church systems (CCB, APS payroll, etc.) a plus.

    Strong reconciliation and financial reporting skills.
