We are a growing property management company overseeing a diverse portfolio of residential and commercial assets. Our focus is on strong financial performance, accurate reporting, and disciplined growth. We are seeking a Controller to own the financial side of the business and provide reliable, audit-ready financials across all entities.
Position Overview
The Controller is responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial reporting. This role is focused strictly on accounting and financial management—not operations. The ideal candidate will ensure that all financials, trust accounts, and reporting processes are clean, compliant, and dependable.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Close
Lead the monthly close process across all entities and properties
Prepare and review financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
Ensure all accounts are reconciled accurately and on time
Deliver consistent, reliable financial reporting to ownership
Trust Accounting & Compliance
Oversee all trust accounting functions (tenant funds, security deposits, owner funds)
Ensure compliance with all applicable property management accounting standards
Maintain audit-ready records and documentation
Serve as point of contact for audits or financial reviews
General Ledger Oversight
Maintain accurate general ledger across multiple entities
Review journal entries and ensure proper coding of all transactions
Standardize and maintain chart of accounts
Cash Management & Forecasting
Monitor and report on company and trust cash positions
Forecast cash flow and anticipate funding needs
Coordinate owner distributions and reserve balances
A/P and A/R Oversight
Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes
Ensure accuracy in rent collections, vendor payments, and financial records
Identify and resolve discrepancies
Systems & Controls
Maintain and improve accounting systems such as AppFolio and QuickBooks
Implement and enforce internal financial controls
Document and standardize accounting procedures
Qualifications
5+ years of accounting experience (property management experience strongly preferred)
Strong understanding of trust accounting (required)
Experience with multi-entity accounting structures
Proficiency in AppFolio, QuickBooks, or similar systems
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
CPA or accounting degree is preferred but not required
