    Job Description

    What’s Financial Planning & Financial Operations internship like? This is a unique opportunity to split your internship between supporting the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team and the Corporate Accounting teams. It enables exposure to a large portion of the Wellmark enterprise. The Financial Planning and Analysis aspect will focus on financial planning, analysis modeling, forecasting, and development of business financial metrics. The Financial Operations aspect will focus on building modeling and systematic processes to further automate and enhance the processes.

    What team deliverables might I support? Although subject to change, examples of work are included below:

    • Support the Financial Planning and Analysis team with updates to existing forecasts
    • Extract data and prepare monthly reports for team use
    • Prepare journal entries and support analysis centered around administrative spending
    • Performs routine tasks under direct supervision and within established procedures and guidelines
    • Applies foundational functional knowledge to produce work deliverables in support of departmental initiatives
    • Build financial models for decision criteria to determine if an idea has a positive Net Present Value
    • Build excel models that are automated and repeatable to save processing time throughout the team
    • Evaluate what processes are operating effectively and make recommendations for improvement to the processes that aren’t operating as intended

    This internship will start in May of 2026, working a hybrid schedule from our headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa. You may then have the opportunity to transition part-time in the fall of 2026.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Current student pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related major
    • Strong understanding of Excel (and other Office tools) including building repeatable models to automate processes
    • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data to produce accurate reports
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work on multiple task
    • Proven problem solving, innovation, and technical adaptation skills
    • Ability to work independently and clearly communicate results
    • Available to work 40 hours/week during the summer

    Preferred :
    Prior internship or office experience and 2+ years of college preferred, but will consider all candidate applications
