    Job Description

The FireEye Data Science team is made up of experienced researchers working at the intersection of security and machine learning.  Team members have published papers and served on PCs for IEEE S&P, USENIX Security, CCS, ICML, and NeurIPS to name a few.  We actively encourage cutting-edge research projects that solve real-world security problems in new and exciting ways.

Our team is looking for talented interns to join us in the Reston, VA office.  We work on a variety of challenging problems across the attack life cycle, ranging from the detection of malware, fileless attacks, and exfiltration, to identification of misinformation campaigns in social media data.  The internship, which involves a mentor, will cover a 12-week period and is expected to culminate in a proof of concept implementation leading to a scientific publication and/or patent application.  Potential projects include:

    • Applying state-of-the-art transformer architectures, popularized in the NLP community, to multiple malware problems including detection and categorization.
    • Developing an efficient and effective binary clustering method for massive, streaming data.

The ideal candidate for the position will be a self-motivated individual with the ability to both understand deeply complex technical concepts and to communicate those concepts to a broad team of machine learning and computer security experts, both in written and verbal form.  The candidate should have previous experience working on advanced research projects with typical tools used in the academic and industrial research community, such as LaTeX and GitHub.  The candidate will gain valuable exposure to these new technologies and problem areas, but also build their C.V. with tangible outcomes, like peer-reviewed publications and presentations.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Interact with senior members of the Data Science team to identify potential avenues of research inquiry
    • Participate in weekly team meetings
    • Conduct effective research around cybersecurity concepts in the data science space
