    How will your role impact First Command?

    The Advanced Planning Consultant will report directly to the Manager, Advanced Planning Consultants and performs a critical role in providing retirement income planning guidance, creation, and support to Directors of Business Development (DBDs), field advisors, home office advisors, home office principals and quality management. Develop and maintain knowledge of planning software, military and FEM benefits, and product solutions. Understand the complex relationship between retirement income planning and income taxation. Ensure quality control standards of financial plans to meet or exceed compliance with industry requirements. Provide support to field advisors and related to the financial planning process, software, and financial plan analysis of information in the plan creation process. Consult directly with Advisors and Clients on strategies and concepts.

    What will you be doing?

    • Limited travel; 2-3 trips per year as business needs dictate.
    • Primary subject matter expert (SME) for Retirement Income Planning strategies. Responsible for keeping material current, coordinating changes, identifying changes that must be incorporated and communicated to the field.
    • Uses professional financial planning software to model various strategies and make initial recommendations to advisors. Models complex strategies for high-net-worth clients to help maximize long-term tax efficiency. Prepares preliminary forecasts and initial product solutions for advisor's review and use in client meetings as it relates to the financial plan.
    • Consults either over the phone or in person with Advisors and Clients on plan strategies and recommendations.
    • Assists in the development and expansion of the financial planning philosophy of First Command, as it relates to advanced retirement income planning concepts, strategies, and business practices.
    • Assist field advisors build clear implementation plans to maximize the penetration into their local identified markets and create new channels of marketing for the company.
    • Coordinates with the Manager of Advanced Planning Consultants along with other Directorates, as assigned, in the continuation of retirement income planning concepts and business practices.
    • Provides support to all Field Divisions and responds to questions from Field Advisors and their staff for information and guidance regarding advanced retirement case design.
    • Works closely with Financial Planning Consultant team to combine financial planning strategies and tax forecasts into a single comprehensive recommendation for clients.
    • Prepares documents on financial planning topics for dissemination to the field as well as conduct live presentations on utilizing software tools to support these concepts. Live presentations may include on-line presentations, classroom presentations, or seminars at field training events.
    • Reviews and provides input for Department publications.
    • Utilizing existing, approved documents, and software applications, assists the advisor with understanding charts, graphs, tables and other visual aids to be used in various meetings with their clients.
    • Develop product recommendations that will fit the client’s risk tolerance and time frame as well as develop appropriate product deliverables.
    • Interprets data obtained from advisors during client meetings for the development of a financial plan.
    • Coordinate with Product Management to perform portfolio analyses and prepare periodic investment performance reports.
    • Assist in the implementation and continuation of First Command's financial planning philosophy and policies to include processes, procedures, work flow, and the financial planning techniques and documents.
    • Assist the financial planning system application team in software testing/analysis to ensure the needs of the end user are fulfilled.

    What skills/qualifications do you need?

    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Financial Planning or similar field of concentration

    Work Experience

    • Five years relevant financial services industry experience, preferred

    Certifications

    • Must hold advanced credential of Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), Chartered Financial Consultant Certification, JD, CPA, or MBA. RICP and EA designations also considered with additional qualifying experience.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (all are required)

    • Requires extensive knowledge of retirement income planning procedures and income taxation.
    • Must possess/acquire detailed knowledge of the Written Supervisory Procedures (WSP), Compliance Manual (CM), and One Net.
    • Must exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills and problem solving skills.
    • Must be organized, energetic, driven self starter, and work with a sense of urgency.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
    • Proficient use of financial planning software (NaviPlan preferred)
    • Proficient use of tax planning software (Holistiplan preferred)
