  • Responsibilities

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The purpose of this position is to ensure, in collaboration with the Nurse Manager for each neighborhood, that safe appropriate and goal-directed care is provided in a consistent manner; to provide support and direction to nursing staff; and to ensure the implementation of the Medical Staff and Nursing Department policies and procedures. This is a salaried exempt managerial position that has discretion to make decisions and have access to confidential employee and business information

    POSITION FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Promote Elizabeth Seton Children’s Center Mission and Core Values of Excellence, Innovation, Collaboration, Evolution Growth and Change, Respect and Embrace Diversity, and Loving Relationships.

    • Provide admission history and physical examinations for new residents.

    • Write initial orders for medical care, medications, and therapies, and rewrite orders on a monthly basis.

    • Evaluate residents and their care, at least once every sixty days.

    • Order and review appropriate laboratory and radiographic studies.

    • Collaborate and coordinate with nurse practitioners to ensure consistent and uninterrupted clinical coverage of all residents.

    • Collaborate with other clinical disciplines to provide holistic care of children.

    • Review and coordinate the care provided by sub-specialty consultants.

    • Serve as a clinical liaison between the Center and acute care hospitals.

    • Provide evaluations of, and order appropriate treatments for, acute illnesses or other clinical problems.

    • Participate in Center Quality Assurance activities.

    • Participate and/or lead clinically relevant committees.

    • Provide clinical leadership during family and team meetings, including quarterly Plan of Care meetings.

    • Communicate and consult with residents’ parents/caregivers on a regular basis.

    • Provide telephone coverage and in-person clinical consultation, when needed, overnight and on weekends and holidays to supplement the care being provided by nurse practitioners.

    • Provide compassionate palliative care to acutely dying children.

    • Pronounce death for residents who die at the Center and submit electronic death certificates, when appropriate.

    • Supervise medical students, residents, and/or fellows.

    • Provide administrative coverage when directed to do so during Chief Medical Officer’s absence.

    • Provide other related duties as may become necessary, as directed by Chief Medical Officer and/or administrator

    Required Skills

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    • MD/DO Degree
    • Residency completion in Pediatrics, Family Medicine, or Combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics
    • Board eligibility or Board certification in Pediatrics or Family Medicine
    • DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) Certification

     

     

    Required Experience

    EXPERIENCE:

    • New York State Medical License
