    Job Description

    First Mortgage Solutions is seeking a residential loan Mortgage Underwriter to join our team. Effective underwriters are VITAL for our continued success as they navigate through the agency and investor requirements within their loan file review and approvals. This position is available immediately and offers a great opportunity to join a past-paced, energetic and growing team!     The following expectations and responsibilities outline the general requirements of a mortgage loan underwriter (UW) for residential mortgage loans:  review and analysis of loan file data and documentation submitted to ensure meeting applicable requirements; understanding of loan programs  per agency (Fannie/Freddie) and investor requirements; understanding of all loan purposes (purchase, refinance, etc.); various property types (condos, SFR, manufactured homes, etc.) as well as appraisal reviews for primary homes, second homes, and/or investment properties.  UW must consistently demonstrate a high level of attention to detail, strong job knowledge, ability to review / research agency and investor guidelines (i.e., regulation and/or compliance requirements; internal policies and procedures; etc.) for loan approval and ultimately salability of the loan to investor.

    UW is expected to display strong initiative as they work independently while effectively managing requests to aid in meeting deadlines, production expectations, as well as closing dates, investor suspense due dates, production goals, etc.  They can be counted on to effectively communicate (written and verbal) with coworkers and/or business partners.   Additional tasks may include assisting with reassigned files internal and/or external audits and exams, as well as on-going training and development, etc. 

    JOB DUTIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING BELOW:

    ·         Two (or more) years of experienced file review/underwrite of residential mortgage loans for conventional loans as well as an understanding of additional loan types (i.e., FHA) to ensure meeting agency (Fannie and Freddie) and investor requirements.

    ·         Review appraisals (collateral underwrite) for accurate property valuation and to ensure appraisal meets investor guidelines and supports value.

    ·         Review and validate all credit worthiness of a loan file, such as the following: credit (i.e., liabilities, new debt, etc.), income (able to calculate income being used to qualify with supporting documentation), asset (i.e., verify applicable documents for account ownership, large deposits, funds to close, etc.), and mortgage insurance if applicable following AUS (DU/LP) and/or loan program requirements.

    ·         Identify transaction components that indicate a potential for fraud and perform sufficient investigative work to resolve issues that are identified.

    ·         Ability to review and approve legal documentation (trust documentation, power-of-attorney, etc.), title reports, insurance policies, flood certificates to ensure acceptable for internal and external requirements.

    ·         Display an understanding property types applicable to loan program(s), including condominiums, manufactured housing, 2-4-unit structures, along with single-family dwellings (attached and detached).         

    ·         Ability to independently and complete underwrite reviews of high quality while meeting production expectations/goals for self and company.

    ·         Demonstrate a commitment to teamwork.

     

     

    SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

    Must have strong job knowledge and underwriting of residential mortgages with a history of two-plus years of experience.  All candidates must be able to demonstrate the following:

    ·         Excellent customer service and communication skills

    ·         Attention to detail

    ·         Critical-thinker and problem-solver

    ·         Excellent organizational and time-management skills (prioritize workload effectively) while managing production (new file reviews and re-submissions)

    ·         Work with a purpose / sense of urgency as required

    ·         Knowledge and understanding of the industry’s regulations and best practices

    ·         Use of tools / technology to aid in your underwriting reviews and approval (i.e., various websites, income calculation tools, approval lists, etc.)

    ·         Encompass experience preferred

    ·         Previous Underwriting experience 2+ years or acceptable alternative

    ·         FHA licensed preferred
