    March 8, 2023 First Presbyterian Church of Ukiah has an opening for a newly created position, Director of Children's Ministries (Part-Time, Non-Exempt Position). Submit a completed application along with a resume of related skills and experience to: Position Summary: Provides leadership, training, and support in the area of children ministries within First Presbyterian Church of Ukiah ("FPCU"). Responsibilities: 1. Plans, implements, and oversees a Christ centered education program for children. a. Provides for Sunday morning programs for children, birth through 5th grade. b. Teaches Sunday School curriculum as approved by the Senior Pastor and Christian Education Elder. c. Ensures purchases are made for supplies as needed for Sunday School and Nursery Ministries. d. Keeps detailed records of Nursery and Sunday School students and their attendance. e. Understands, abides by and enforces "First Presbyterian Church of Ukiah (FPCU) Safe Church Misconduct and Abuse Prevention Policy ('Safe Church')" to ensure child safety. f. Forms healthy relationships with children and parent attendees of First Presbyterian Church of Ukiah. g. Follows up and forms healthy relationships with new families with children. 2. Oversees paid and volunteer staff for children. a. Recruits, trains, and schedules volunteers for Sunday School and Church sponsored events. b. Works closely with the Christian Education elder and others to implement programs, develop leadership, and ensure ministry alignment with the Church's mission statement: "First Presbyterian Church of Ukiah exists to share the love and truth of Jesus Christ with each other, our community and the world." 3. Plans, implements, and oversees community outreach events for children and their families, such as Vacation Bible School ("VBS"), Trunk or Treat (during Halloween), and Easter Egg events. a. Recruits and trains volunteers (ensure they are Safe Church approved for VBS) b. Oversees promotion of events, through social media, flyers, bulletins, etc. c. Follows up with children and families who attend to welcome them to FPCU. 4. Proposes the Children's Ministry budget for the following year to the Christian Education Elder. Requirements: 1. High School diploma or equivalent with at least two years of documented continued education or experience working with children from infants to 5th graders, or related experience. 2. Safe Church training, background checks and fingerprinting (AB506). 3. Current CPR and First Aid Training Certifications or to be completed within 30 days from date of hire. 4. Knowledge of the Bible. 5. Knowledge of stages of child development with educational best practices for each (or commitment to learning the same). 6. Personal commitment to the Christian faith and practice of life-giving disciplines that promote one's own ongoing spiritual health (worship, fellowship, prayer etc.), 7. Participation in the church life of First Presbyterian Church of Ukiah. 8. The desire, joy, and enthusiasm to work in Children's Ministries. 9. Completion of work authorization ("I-9") for proof to be able to work in the United States. Reports to: Accountable to the Senior Pastor/Head of Staff and to the Session through the Personnel Ministry Team. Time Expectations: The duties of the Director of Children's Ministry are expected to require up to 15 hours every week, including Sundays, with occasional additional hours above 15 hours due to special events. The working of additional hours must have prior approval of the Senior Pastor/Head of Staff and so noted on the timecard. Hours will be paid from the signed and approved timecard only. Additional Benefits: Study Leave: After six months of continual successful performance and with Session approval, the employee may request one week of paid study leave (15 hours) per year plus the reimbursement of related costs up to a maximum of $375/year so that the employee may enrich his/her understanding of being a Disciple of Christ. Sick Leave: One hour of sick leave for every 30 hours of work. Flexible schedule.
