Flare Jewelry seeks a Full Stack Software Engineer to join our 4-person VC-backed startup in Boston. We are redefining personal safety based on real data and stories instead of outdated stereotypes. Over 70% of assault happens with someone you know, not a stranger in a dark alley. We help you escape bad social interactions earlier in the moment. Get out as soon as you get that bad feeling in your gut and before a situation escalates into an emergency. 

We are a software platform delivered through discreet and elegant hardware. As the first dedicated backend engineer at Flare, you'll make mission critical decisions about our architecture that directly impact our users and their success in using the product.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Jump into any part of the software stack as needed, from server to administrative web site to mobile app to firmware
• Implement infrastructure and APIs that respect our customers and their privacy
• Build mobile apps and administrative web sites to help our users manage their data
• Propose and help implement new ideas

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 2+ years experience with Python and Linux
• 2+ years experience using relational and NoSQL storage, preferably including PostgreSQL
• 1+ years experience with message queues and related mechanisms for distributing work
• 1+ years experience with containers and orchestration
• 1+ years experience building the server side to support web & mobile clients
• 1+ years experience with React, with opinions about using context
• Interest or experience with React Native or similar
• Interest or experience in firmware
• Being authorized to work in the U.S. is a precondition of employment
